BUDGET 2026💼
After watching fully grown adults entrusted with running the country behaving like schoolchildren, the Budget has come and gone.
Key areas from a financial planning perspective:
💷 CASH ISAs: A confirmed U-turn on plans to reduce the annual cash ISA allowance from £20,000 to £12,000 for under-65s.
📈 SAVINGS & RENTAL INCOME: Last year's Budget announced a 2 percentage-point increase in tax rates on taxable bank savings interest (outside ISAs) and rental profits from April 2027. Today's Budget added a further 2 percentage points, taking the planned rates to 24%, 44% and 49%.
🏴 SCOTLAND: Savings tax changes apply across the UK. However, the new property income rates apply to England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Scottish rental income is subject to Scottish income tax rules, with our Scottish Budget following on 3 December.
💼 PENSIONS & CGT: No changes to the main Capital Gains Tax rates or pension tax-free cash. However, most unused pension funds will still be included in an individual's estate for Inheritance Tax purposes from 6 April 2027.
💷STATE PENSION: A new tax allowance has been announced to protect pensioners on the lowest incomes from paying tax as the full State Pension rises above the Personal Allowance from April 2027. However, the treatment of those receiving additional private pension income still needs clarification.
