The judges of the The Telegraph & Argus BUSINESSiQ Awards 2026 have shortlisted us in the Family Business of the Year category!

Founded in 1919, we are very proud of our fourth-generation family firm, which is owned by management and staff. Group Executive Chair, Polly Staveley, and Group Director, Mackenzie Dallas, are both great grandchildren of the company’s founder, Thomas Lessels Dallas OBE.

We’re delighted to share that Shetland GC has received a £2,000 grant from the Allianz UK All Together Sports Fund following a successful nomination by Ruth Newbold from our Shetland office.

Ruth nominated the club in recognition of the incredible work it does for young people across Shetland and the challenges it has overcome in securing a permanent home.

After more than a decade of searching, the club has finally been granted planning permission to create its own dedicated gymnastics facility in Cunningsburgh - a huge milestone for coaches, volunteers, gymnasts and families involved with the club.

The funding will help support the next stage of the club’s journey as it prepares to move into its new premises and expand opportunities for the local community.

Shetland Gymnastics Club has grown significantly since launching in 2005, despite operating for years in limited space and with a long waiting list. The new facility will allow the club to improve training opportunities, introduce additional classes and continue supporting young athletes across the islands.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved at Shetland Gymnastics Club and well done to Ruth for helping secure this well-deserved support.
