Learning about inclusion can start with a book, podcast, or film. That’s why we started our DE&I Multimedia Club.

At Yorkshire Building Society, we bring our people together each month to learn about the lived experiences of different communities, through multimedia chosen by our colleague networks and groups.
The aim is simple: to gain perspective, spark meaningful conversations, and help us better understand the world through someone else’s eyes. Recent themes have included LGBTQ+ experiences, social mobility, accessibility, parenting and caring responsibilities, and menopause.

All this, helps our colleagues to build empathy, allyship, and intersectional understanding across communities.

Chloe Crowther recently joined YBS and is already collaborating with different business areas to understand their challenges and explore which tools could make a meaningful difference to their day-to-day roles and beyond. As part of our Black History Month events, Holly Straker-Humphreys joined our colleagues and Board here in Bradford to share her story and challenge us to do more.

Her words, experience, and insight captured our attention. It reminded us of what it means to be genuine allies and authentic leaders. And that creating a barrier-free environment is what's needed to make a real impact for everyone who works here.

Want to know more about a career in Digital at YBS?

Who better to ask than one of our User Experience (UX) Managers, George? He took the time to tell us about his career so far.

Starting out as a UX Designer, he's been working on some exciting projects that make understanding financial services easier for our customers. He’s developed loads of new technical and leadership skills, including collaboration, problem-solving and facilitation, and now he manages a team of his own.

It's clear to see how much pride he takes in simplifying the complex world of financial services and making it more accessible.

He's gone from creating joyful experiences for our customers to doing the same for his team.
