โ˜€๏ธ Big VAT savings are coming this summer.

The government has announced a temporary VAT reduction from 20% to 5% on selected children's meals and family leisure activities.

๐Ÿ“… The reduced rate applies from 25 June to 1 September 2026.

Eligible activities include:

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Children's meals served from dedicated children's menus
๐ŸŽฌ Cinema tickets
๐ŸŽญ Theatre shows
๐ŸŽต Concerts and exhibitions
๐ŸŽก Theme parks and family attractions
๐Ÿฆ Zoos and museums
๐ŸŽช Fairs and circuses

However, not everything qualifies.

โŒ Takeaway meals
โŒ Sporting activities

For affected businesses, this may mean updating:

โœ” Pricing
โœ” Till systems
โœ” Websites and booking systems
โœ” Accounting software

๐Ÿ’ก The government expects businesses to pass the VAT savings directly on to customers.

If your business is affected, now is the time to review how the rules apply and ensure your systems are ready for the summer period.

โš ๏ธ 43% of UK businesses experienced a cyber attack last year.

With AI making cyber threats more sophisticated, businesses are being encouraged to take cyber security more seriously than ever.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ The government's new Cyber Resilience Pledge encourages businesses to:

โœ” Make cyber security a board-level priority
โœ” Join the free Early Warning Service
โœ” Ensure suppliers hold Cyber Essentials certification

Cyber attacks don't just affect your IT systems.

They can lead to:
โŒ Operational disruption
โŒ Financial losses
โŒ Reputational damage
โŒ Loss of customer trust

๐Ÿ’ก Building resilience isn't just about technology, it's about protecting your business, your finances, and your future.

At Naseems Accountants, we help businesses strengthen their financial systems, compliance processes, and operational resilience.

๐Ÿ“ข A record number of taxpayers are already filing their tax returns early.

HM Revenue and Customs reports that nearly 738,000 Self Assessment tax returns were filed during April 2026 alone.

So why are more people filing early?

โœ” Faster tax refunds
โœ” Less last-minute stress
โœ” More time to budget for tax payments
โœ” Time to correct mistakes before the deadline
โœ” Proof of income for mortgages, loans, or benefits

๐Ÿ’ก Important reminder:
Filing early does NOT mean paying early.

You still have until 31 January 2027 to pay any tax owed.

With more than 12 million tax returns expected this year, leaving it until January can create unnecessary pressure.

๐Ÿข Closed your company years ago? Your records may still matter.

Companies House is reviewing how long records of dissolved companies should be kept, and it could affect former directors and business owners.

๐Ÿ“‚ Current rules:
Company records are usually kept for 20 years after dissolution.
After that, some records are archived while others may be destroyed.

โš  Whatโ€™s changing?
Due to growing concerns, Companies House has paused the destruction of dissolved company records while the review takes place.

๐Ÿ’ก Why this matters:
Old company records can still be important for:
โœ” Tax enquiries
โœ” Legal matters
โœ” Business history
โœ” Director records

Even if a company no longer exists, its records may still play an important role in future compliance or investigations.

๐Ÿ“ฆ Exporting low-value goods to the EU?
A major customs change is coming from 1 July 2026.

The EU will introduce a fixed customs duty of โ‚ฌ3 on parcels valued under โ‚ฌ150 exported by non-EU businesses registered under the Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS).

This could directly affect:
๐Ÿ›’ E-commerce sellers
๐Ÿ“ฆ Online retailers
๐ŸŒ Businesses shipping products to EU customers

โš  Why this matters:
The โ‚ฌ3 duty is only a temporary measure while the EU prepares to remove the low-value customs duty relief threshold entirely.

In the future, goods under โ‚ฌ150 could become subject to standard EU customs tariffs.

An additional handling fee is also being discussed separately by the EU Council.

If your business exports to EU consumers, now is the time to review:
โœ” Pricing strategy
โœ” VAT compliance
โœ” IOSS registration
โœ” Customs planning

International VAT and customs rules are changing fast, and early preparation can help avoid unexpected costs and compliance issues.

๐ŸŽฌ Are you in the creative industry?
Your company could be missing out on valuable Corporation Tax reliefs and expenditure credits.

Businesses involved in:
๐ŸŽฅ Film
๐Ÿ“บ Television
๐ŸŽฎ Video Games
๐ŸŽญ Theatre
๐ŸŽป Orchestral Productions
๐Ÿ› Museum or Gallery Exhibitions

โ€ฆmay qualify for Creative Industry Tax Reliefs.

These reliefs can help eligible companies:
โœ” Reduce Corporation Tax
โœ” Increase allowable expenditure
โœ” Access payable tax credits
โœ” Improve cash flow

And if your company makes a loss, part of that loss could potentially be converted into a tax credit.

โš  Important update:
If you submit your Company Tax Return on or after 6 April 2026, you must include the new CT600P Creative Industries supplementary page.

Creative industry tax rules can be complex, and many businesses miss opportunities simply because they donโ€™t realise they qualify.

Big update for charities, and this one could really support your fundraising. ๐ŸŽฏ

Under the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, a new โ€˜soft opt-inโ€™ rule has been introduced.

๐Ÿ’ก What it means:
If someone has already shown interest in your charity, like donating, signing up, or supporting your cause, you may now be able to contact them via email, text, or messages without full consent first.

๐Ÿ“ข Sounds like a winโ€ฆ but thereโ€™s a catch:
You must still follow strict compliance rules and give people a clear, easy way to opt out at any time.

๐Ÿ“˜ Guidance has been released by the Information Commissioner's Office to help charities apply this correctly.

๐Ÿš€ Done right:
โ€ข Stronger engagement
โ€ข More fundraising opportunities

โš ๏ธ Done wrong:
โ€ข Risk of compliance issues and penalties

Understanding the rules is key to making the most of this change, safely and effectively.
