The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) yesterday announced that lenders should continue to support homeowners still struggling to pay their mortgage due to coronavirus. Their proposals are outlined below:

* “Customers who can afford to return to full repayment should do so in their best interests”

* “Anyone who continues to need help gets help”

* “Extending the time the scheme is available to people who may be impacted at a later date”

* “Keeping a roof over people’s head during a public health crisis”

* “Payment holidays and partial payment holidays offered under this guidance should not have a negative impact on credit files”

According to Mortgage Strategy, physical valuations and home surveys are due to restart.

However, surveyors will still need to follow social distancing rules and, where possible, digital valuations are to be carried out rather than “in-person appointments”.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors is preparing guidance for surveyors attending properties and further details will be published on their website “over the coming days”.

Whilst it may take a bit of time for things to start moving again, this positive news could help towards kickstarting both the property market and the wider economy.
