The latest 𝗙𝗘𝗕𝗜𝗦–𝗙𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗔 survey on AI in Trade Credit Management: Adoption, Impact and Future Outlook reveals one of the most important challenges facing the industry today.

While organisations are increasingly investing in AI and expect it to transform trade credit management, many are not yet fully prepared to scale its use responsibly.

Key findings:
🔹 Only 21% of organisations have a fully implemented AI governance framework
🔹 65% cite regulatory compliance as a major challenge
🔹 62% identify data privacy as a key concern
🔹 73% do not use AI in communications with vulnerable borrowers due to ethical and reputational considerations

At the same time, confidence in the future remains strong:
▫️ 93% of respondents expect AI to have a significant or transformative impact on the industry by 2029
▫️ 57% plan to allocate at least 5% of their total budget to AI initiatives

The message is clear: technology alone is not enough. As AI adoption accelerates, governance, transparency, and responsible implementation will be critical to building trust and delivering long-term value.

The judgment confirms that while third-country sanctions lists, such as the OFAC list, may be considered as part of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing risk assessments, they cannot automatically prevent a bank from establishing a business relationship with a customer where no EU, UN or national sanctions apply.

The ruling reinforces the importance of proportionate, risk-based decision-making and highlights the need for accurate and reliable information in compliance processes.

🏛️Yesterday, 𝗙𝗘𝗕𝗜𝗦 had the privilege of bringing together policymakers, business leaders and data experts at the European Parliament to discuss the future of the 𝗘𝗕𝗪𝘀 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘁 and the role of trusted business information in Europe's competitiveness.

The discussion was opened by 𝗙𝗘𝗕𝗜𝗦 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁, Gertjan Kaart, who painted a picture of the current European landscape and stressed the importance of regulatory harmonisation for businesses to thrive and the role of 𝗕𝗜𝗣𝘀 as enablers of compliance.

🤝We want to express our deepest gratitude to our distinguished panellists, Bojana Bellamy, Dirk Findeisen, Patrice Luscan, Seema Mistry and Lúcio Vinhas de Souza who enriched the conversation and shed light on the crucial role of trustful, accessible, and interoperable data to enhance 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲'𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗱 and 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Stéphanie Vérilhac Marzin, FEBIS Institutional and Regulatory Affairs Coordinator, for expertly guiding the discussion.

As businesses increasingly operate across borders and rely on digital and AI-powered processes, access to high-quality, interoperable business information is becoming a strategic necessity, not only for compliance, but for growth, innovation and economic resilience.

The discussion highlighted how better data sharing can:
✔ Strengthen trust in business transactions
✔ Help companies scale across the Single Market
✔ Support SMEs and sole traders
✔ Improve fraud prevention and risk management
✔ Unlock the full potential of digitalisation and AI

Europe has the data. The challenge now is making it interoperable, accessible and usable across borders.

👏A special thank you to 𝗠𝗘𝗣 𝗚𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗼𝘀 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗼𝘆 and his team for hosting this timely discussion and creating the space for a constructive exchange on the future of Europe's business data ecosystem.
