Strong Roots Donation to Wilmot and Wellesley Resource Centre
The Wilmot and Wellesley Resource Centre (WWRC) supports families in need by providing access to food and clothing for those who may not be able to afford these essentials. We chose to support WWRC because it is a local organization that serves not only residents within town limits, but also families living in surrounding rural areas who may require additional assistance.
Our involvement began when Strong Roots was assigned 14 sponsor families to support. Our team shopped for these families and carefully packed the requested gifts in accordance with WWRC guidelines. Throughout WWRC’s volunteer week, our team participated across three separate days, each offering a unique and meaningful experience.
On the first volunteer day, Group 1 (Michael, Lauren, and Elizabeth) spent the morning delivering hampers filled with the gifts purchased for sponsored families. They also assisted with packing additional toy boxes and assembling food hampers.
On the second volunteer day, Group 2 (Taylor, Scott, and Kelsi) helped by labeling socks by size, sorting hats and mitts, and packing food boxes to ensure each contained all necessary items.
On the third volunteer day, Group 3 (Kelly, Danielle, Drew, and Shara) supported families directly by helping them shop for essential items such as hats and mitts as well as special gifts for members of their family.
After purchasing gifts and grocery cards for our sponsored families, we had remaining funds, which were donated directly to WWRC to assist with purchasing additional food as needed.
Overall, this initiative was a humbling and deeply meaningful experience for our team. Being able to support local families firsthand reinforced the importance of community and reminded us how impactful even small acts of kindness can be. The Wilmot and Wellesley Resource Centre is always looking for volunteers and makes a thoughtful effort to match individuals with roles that are both fulfilling and responsive to the Centre’s needs.
