Even though I'm an insurance agent who advocates for prevention, caution, and vigilance, I have to admit that I haven't always led by example! 😅

When we moved into my current home we were having my son's 1st Bday party at our house the next week and threw everything in the basement without paying attention to having the plastic totes on the bottom of the piles. The week after the party our basement filled up.

As a result, We lost many family mementos that couldn't be replaced; yearbooks, childhood photos etc. Lesson learned, put the plastic totes on the floor and then stack on top.

That experience taught me the hard way that water damage can be sneaky and shouldn't be taken lightly. It spreads fast and doesn't give you much of a warning... until it's too late! Because I don't want you to make the same mistake I did, here are a few signs to watch out for to help prevent problems before they turn into costly damage.
