Update: Fuel Shortage & Insurance Coverage
With the current fuel shortage affecting travel plans, we’ve been getting a lot of questions about trip cancellation and interruption insurance—so here’s what you need to know:
Trip Cancellation Insurance
👉 If you purchased your policy before the advisory came into effect on April 22nd, 2026, you may have coverage—but only if the situation meets your policy’s covered reasons.
👉 If you bought insurance on or after April 22nd, this fuel shortage is considered a known event and is not covered for cancellation.
Trip Interruption Insurance
Coverage depends on whether the advisory is still in effect on your departure date.
👉 If the advisory is still in effect on your departure date, there is no trip interruption coverage related to the fuel shortage.
👉 If it is no longer in effect, coverage may apply depending on your policy and the cause of the disruption.
⚠️ Important Reminder:
Every policy is different. Coverage depends on the fine print, the reason for disruption, and when you purchased your insurance. If you have a policy, please review your policy booklet.
If you have a trip coming up and aren’t sure where you stand, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to help you review your coverage 👍
