“Having enough” is not a number, it's a strategy. If you have accumulated meaningful capital but still question long-term sustainability, the issue may not be assets. It may be structure.

Affluent retirees often accumulate significant assets yet remain uncertain about sustainability. The concern is rarely about wealth alone. It is about clarity.

Confidence comes from understanding income durability, tax exposure, healthcare contingencies, and estate implications under multiple scenarios.

Thank you to Santana Bellantoni and GuelphToday for including Karen in this conversation about financial literacy for young people.

This school year, Grade 10 students in Ontario will write a new standardized financial literacy test as a graduation requirement. It's a great step, but the habits young people build matter even more than the test.

Clients sometimes ask us to speak with their adult children about money. In those conversations, we often hear the same thing: they wish they had learned these skills earlier, because they could have been further ahead.

The first habit we recommend is to pay yourself first. Even a child selling lemonade can learn to set aside part of what they earn. The earlier it starts, the more natural it becomes.

If you're a parent wondering how to start these conversations at home, The Morris Team is always happy to help.

Behavioural risk does not end at retirement, it often increases. Market volatility feels different when you are drawing income rather than contributing capital.

Structured income planning reduces the need to make reactive decisions during market stress. Cash flow reserves, disciplined rebalancing, and predefined withdrawal frameworks create stability when headlines do not.

If recent market swings have caused uncertainty around your income plan, a structured review may provide reassurance.

There is a difference between managing investments and engineering a retirement. Affluent retirees often discover that strong portfolios alone do not guarantee optimal outcomes.

Investment management focuses on returns. Financial planning integrates income sequencing, tax efficiency, estate liquidity, risk management, and behavioural discipline into a cohesive design.

If you value disciplined, integrated advice, a conversation about your current framework may be worthwhile.

Estate plans do not fail because of poor intentions. They fail because of poor liquidity.

Many affluent families hold substantial real estate, private investments, or corporate structures. Without sufficient liquid assets, estates can face forced sales, tax inefficiencies, or family tension.

Estate liquidity planning must account for final tax liabilities, equalization strategies, and timing mismatches between assets and obligations. This requires coordination between portfolio design, insurance analysis, and estate documentation.

If your estate strategy has not been tested for liquidity under different scenarios, it's worth revisiting before it's too late.

The second quarter of 2026 proved that markets are often driven by fundamentals, not headlines.

In this latest market update, Philip Petursson, Chief Investment Strategist at IG Wealth Management, explains why strong corporate earnings, expanding market leadership and resilient economic data helped global markets move higher despite ongoing uncertainty.

Why did geopolitical tensions fail to derail the markets? And which...

For business owners, retirement begins before the sale. Transition planning must integrate corporate structure, capital gains exemptions, estate intentions, and post-sale income design.

The liquidity event is only one step. The real planning challenge lies in converting concentrated business equity into sustainable, tax-efficient personal income while preserving legacy goals.

Without coordinated modelling, many business owners overpay tax or under-structure their post-sale portfolios.

If you are within five to ten years of a potential transition, early planning can materially change outcomes.
