Your teen just got their G1. Here’s when your rates actually change. 🚗

Good news first: adding a G1 driver to your policy won’t raise your premium. G1 drivers aren’t ratable, so you’re just letting your insurer know they’ll be driving one day.

The G2 is the one to watch. Once your teen can drive on their own, they become a ratable driver and need to be on your policy. Expect your premium to go up a bit.

Got a full G driver at home who doesn’t have their own insurance? Add them too, so everyone’s properly protected.

The easy move is to call your Youngs broker whenever someone in your house starts driving. We’ll take it from there. 📞

Would your car insurance pay for a smashed window after a break-in? Don’t assume that coverage is included. 🚗

Comprehensive coverage is optional in Ontario. It can cover vehicle damage caused by theft or vandalism, subject to your policy and deductible. Without it or another applicable coverage, you could be paying for those repairs yourself.

And if your laptop was stolen from inside? That may fall under your home, condo or tenant insurance, potentially involving a separate claim and deductible.

Before a break-in leaves you with unexpected costs, ask your Youngs broker to review your optional coverages. We can explain what you have, where there may be gaps and how your deductibles would apply.

Save this as a reminder to check your coverage.

🚗 Hit-and-run? Here’s the insurance detail most drivers don’t expect.

Many people assume their uninsured automobile coverage takes care of a hit-and-run. In Ontario, that coverage pays for damage to your vehicle only when the at-fault driver is identified. If the driver is never found, repairs usually go through your optional collision coverage instead, and if you don’t carry collision, you may be paying out of pocket.

Uninsured coverage still matters. It can help protect you if you’re injured by a driver who can’t be identified. It just usually isn’t what fixes your car.

What you do in the first few moments also makes a difference. Getting somewhere safe, writing down what you remember, photographing the scene and reporting the incident to police within 24 hours all help protect your claim.

Swipe through for the steps to take after a hit-and-run in Ontario, and save this post so you have it when you need it.

Not sure if you have collision coverage? Connect with a Youngs Insurance Broker to review your policy before the unexpected happens.

62% of Canadians say they aren’t concerned about flooding affecting their home or community. Yet approximately 80% of major Canadian cities are located partly on or near floodplains. 💧

That gap is a good reason to ask: could you be overlooking your own flood risk?

Understanding your coverage is a good place to start. Overland water, groundwater and sewer backup can require different coverages, often available as optional add-ons. Having one doesn’t necessarily mean you have the others.

Talk to your Youngs Insurance broker to understand what your policy covers before you need it.

Send this to a homeowner you care about. It could prompt a conversation they’ll be glad they had.

Quick question: could you list everything in your bedroom closet right now? What about the kitchen drawers?

After a fire or break-in, that’s exactly what your insurer will ask you to do. Most people forget things they owned, and they end up claiming less than they’re entitled to.

The fix takes about 90 seconds:
🎥 Walk through every room with your phone recording
🗣️ Say what things are out loud as you go
🚪 Open the closets and drawers
📧 Email the video to yourself so it’s stored somewhere outside your home

Then do the other half: make sure your policy would actually pay to replace it all. Many people’s contents limits haven’t kept up with what they own.

That’s why having options matters. Youngs works with more than 24 insurance carrier partners, so your broker can help you compare more than just price, including coverage, exclusions and overall protection.

Don’t compare your price to your friend’s. Compare your options.

We are so proud to share that the Fifth Annual Patty Valleriani Memorial Charity Golf Tournament raised $35,000 for Hospice Niagara, our largest donation in the tournament's history!

This annual event honours the memory of Patty Valleriani and her legacy of compassion, generosity, and community spirit. Funds raised will help Hospice Niagara continue expanding access to hospice palliative care across the region, including Walker House in Welland, which opened in 2025, and Willson House in Fort Erie, opening in early 2027.

A special thank you to Gore Mutual for their generous $10,000 contribution, and a heartfelt thank you to our sponsors, donors, volunteers, and participants. Your support made this incredible achievement possible. Patty's legacy continues to inspire us all.

Sometimes referred to as business income coverage, business interruption insurance is a type of commercial property insurance that helps to protect business owners by helping to cover the cost of lost income and extra expenses if their business is temporarily not able to operate due to damage resulting from a covered peril.
Lost income typically refers to damaged or destroyed merchandise.

A covered peril typically refers to fire, theft, wind, lightning, or falling objects.

We recommend that most small businesses consider having this type of coverage. Click the link in our bio to get in touch with your local insurance broker to discuss your coverage options.

08/24/2022

Condo building insurance is purchased by the condo operation to cover damage to the condo building and the condo’s shared spaces, such as pools, recreational rooms, and the lobby. If there is damage to an individual unit, the condo building insurance may not cover the damage; rather, it may be the responsibility of the condo unit owner.

Some condo corporations may require that condo owners have a certain amount of insurance coverage for their unit, so be sure to understand the requirements of the condo building before moving in.
