Financial literacy is power. 💡
You don’t need to be an investment expert! Be curious and understand the basics: asset classes, diversification, risk, market cycles, fees, and how your strategy supports your goals.
When you understand investment basics and the value of a truly diversified portfolio, you can make better decisions about how to invest.
Diversification may provide greater value than simply choosing a single fund on your own and focusing on minimizing fees because you feel you’re being ripped off.
I hear from prospects often are fixated on avoiding any fees in their portfolio, but they may not fully understand what those fees can do for them. And even if you invest through a “free” self-directed investment platform, you may still be paying fees 🤯 even if the platform makes you believe you aren’t. These costs can be built into spreads, currency conversions, fund expenses, account charges, or other transaction-related costs. “Free” doesn’t always mean cost-free, so make sure you understand how the platform makes money and what you’re actually paying.
Fees should never be ignored! But they should be evaluated in the context of the value they provide. It’s not only the rate of return that justifies a fee. It can also be the peace of mind that comes from having a plan, the guidance you receive through difficult markets, and the support of someone acting as your personal CFO across all areas of your financial life.
Ask better questions. Challenge assumptions.
Understand how your money is invested, be completely aware clearly what you’re paying, the risks involved, and the value of being part of a professional network through your advisor!
When you understand how money works, you become an active participant in building your wealth… not just a “spectator” who sometimes feels like a “victim” of nonsensical fees.
Start with the basics. Understand diversification. Evaluate your fees. Know your value. Take control. 💰
