In the latest issue of ‘How can the Federal Government spend MY money badly’ comes the latest in the Liberal’s attempt to buy one more term as the ruling party in Canada. Yesterday the Liberal government indicated that they will be issuing rebate cheques, which will go out in the spring to working Canadians who earned less than $150,000 in 2023. As many as 18.7 million Canadians qualify for the rebate, the government said, which brings the total cost to $4.7 billion. Which is another 10% increase to the current 47 BILLION dollars deficit the Liberal Government is currently sitting on.
250 dollars for a 4.7 BILLION cost and that doesn’t include the interest or carrying cost going forward.
Bruno Valko of Merix Mortgages suggested an alternative below:
We need more nurses in Canada. Our healthcare system is underserved and in ICU.
Let’s take a look at how many nurses $4.7Billion gets us.
1,000 Nurses @ $200,000 year one = $200Million. Add 5% a year to that cost annually and it all adds up to $4.7Billion in 16 years. 1,000 nurses for 16 years across Canada or $250 bucks?
• I know there’s all kinds of arguments to this analogy and it’s not “apples to apples”. I’m keeping it simple to prove a point.
We also need more housing, better infrastructure, less debt and another thousand other things in this country. But we choose to give $200 away in Ontario to millions of people and then another $250 nationally.
That’s adding to our deficit and adds to higher interest rates consumers pay and inflationary pressures at a time we need to reduce inflation.
