Labor Day weekend this year was not a weekend without labor on the Jenkins' farm.

Growing up on a farm with 5 brothers and 3 sisters was a unique experience. Nothing came easy and you were expected to work. The sunken eyes of all of my brothers in this photo are due to the 15-hour workdays they pull in order to harvest the very food we eat.

Helping out this weekend gave me time to reflect on my own business and what it means to prepare for uncertainty. Like the weather, the markets can sometimes throw us a curveball. The bad weather will pass and in that time the equipment is serviced, you catch up on sleep and be prepared to do it again.

I pray that the weather continues to cooperate for our Alberta farmers as they work through this year's harvest.
