Another fantastic evening with the insurance community!

Last night, the Insurance Brokers Association of Waterloo Region hosted our March meeting at Golf’s Steak House in Kitchener.

We were pleased to welcome Cindy Cheung, Professor at Conestoga College’s School of Business, who delivered an insightful presentation on Fair Treatment of Customers.

Attendees explored the importance of ethical business practices, transparency, and accountability in our industry, while earning 1.0 RIBO Ethics CE hour. It was a great opportunity for brokers and industry professionals to connect, learn, and continue strengthening our commitment to putting customers first.

The Insurance Brokers Association of Waterloo Region, The KW Ontario Insurance Adjusters Association and The Insurance Institute of Ontario Conestoga Chapter invite you to join us for our 12th Annual Tri-Association Curling Bonspiel at the Westmount Golf & Country Club.

Register your team or teams here (4 per team). Then contact our Peter Hood at [email protected] or 519-579-0184 to reserve either the Morning Draw (8:30 am to 1:30 pm) or the Afternoon Draw (11:45 am to 4:30 pm) for your team. Max 12 teams per draw - first come first reserved. Both draws will include lunch.

Last Thursday, the Insurance Brokers Association of Waterloo Region gathered at Golf’s Steak House for an evening of meaningful conversation and industry insight.

We were pleased to welcome back Rocco Neglia, President & CEO of HD Mutual Insurance Company, who led a timely and thought-provoking discussion on accident benefits and the upcoming 2026 Ontario Auto Reform. Drawing on deep experience, Rocco walked us through how the Ontario auto product has evolved, why previous reforms missed the mark, and what these next changes could mean for the market and for a broker’s duty of care to clients.

Thank you to our members and industry colleagues who joined us and contributed to such an engaging discussion. Conversations like these matter as we look ahead and prepare for what’s next in our industry.

The Insurance Brokers Association of Waterloo Region will be hosting a meeting on Thursday, February 05, 2026 at Golf’s Steak House.

Rocco Neglia, the President and Chief Executive Officer of HD Mutual Insurance Company, is back to talk about accident benefits! Rocco presented at our January 2024 meeting and he took the group through a historical view of the Ontario auto product, why previous reforms have not worked, and what possible solutions could improve or “fix” the Ontario auto product. In light of the 2026 Auto Reform, we have invited Rocco back to discuss this upcoming reform, the potential market impact as well as the impact on a broker’s duty of care to insureds.

Kicking off 2026 the right way!

We were thrilled to start the year with an engaging and informative meeting at Golf’s Steak House, featuring IBAO President Shara Bierman.

Shara shared key insights shaping the Ontario broker landscape, including advocacy priorities, auto reform, the provincial nat-cat project, developments within YBC, support for local affiliates, and evolving regulatory and licensing changes.

Last night marked the 94th Annual General Meeting of the Insurance Brokers Association of Waterloo Region, held at Golf’s Steakhouse in Kitchener.

The evening included key updates, reflections on another successful year, and heartfelt recognition of those who continue to shape and strengthen our association.

We were proud to present Past President Joanna Mendonca with a plaque in appreciation of her incredible leadership, commitment, and service over the past two years. Joanna’s dedication has left a lasting impact, and we’re deeply grateful for her contributions.

Congratulations to Nick Lopers, who was officially sworn in as our new President. Nick’s enthusiasm and long-standing dedication to the board will no doubt continue to drive IBAWR forward.

Finally, Elnaz Akbari was sworn in as Vice President — joining the executive team to help further IBAWR’s mission of supporting brokers and fostering professional growth across the region.

Here’s to another year of progress, collaboration, and community within our industry.
