I see the same heavy weight sitting on farm families all the time: a massive gap between what the kids expect and what Mom and Dad are planning.

When those conversations don't happen around the kitchen table, things shatter. I’ve watched kids walk away to start whole new farms, or worse, land getting sold off to outsiders simply because nobody wanted to bring up the taboo topic of succession.
We have to stop treating transition planning like a dirty word.

On November 5th, Alana Wright, myself, and your local Rocky Mountain House CIBC branch are hosting a session on how to actually have these talks without blowing up family dinners. Good food, straight talk, and a plan that works. Send me a message or comment below to grab a seat! 👇

There’s a lot of noise in the news about Alberta’s future, but for the farm families I talk to, the real worry isn't happening in Ottawa. It’s happening right at home.

When you feel like you're losing control of your land, your taxes, and your future, the last thing you want is a messy succession plan that hands control over to someone else.

If you want to protect your operation on your terms, let's talk. Alana Wright, myself, and your local Rocky Mountain House CIBC branch are hosting a relaxed, straight-talk farm transition session on November 5th.

Good food, no corporate fluff, and a real plan. Drop a comment below or send me a message to grab a seat! 🚜👇

I spent time at a kitchen table last week with a farm family, and the conversation got quiet when we hit one major roadblock. How do you pass down the farm fairly when only one of your kids stayed on the tractor?

Splitting up working land can put the farm at risk, but you also want to ensure your off farm kids are treated fairly. Fairness and equality do not always look identical, but there are ways to balance the scale.

On November 5th, I am hosting a seminar right here in Rocky Mountain House alongside tax specialist Alana Wright, CPA, CA to walk through the exact financial structures that keep the farm whole and protect family harmony. Appetizers and refreshments are provided!

Can you afford to hand over the keys to the family farm? 🌾🏡

It is a conversation that happens around kitchen tables all across our community. But true farm succession does not start with a tax form. It starts with securing your own reliable retirement first, so you can step back with total peace of mind.

On Thursday, November 5th, I am hosting a special seminar right here in Rocky Mountain House alongside guest tax specialist Alana Wright, CPA, CA. We are sitting down to talk about how to separate your personal wealth from the farm's daily risk, navigate complex tax rollovers, and handle the fairness versus equality dilemma with your kids.

Seats are limited to keep the room comfortable. Click the link below to see the details and grab your seat! 👇

Pop quiz: Are we in a bull market or a bear market right now?

If your honest answer is "I don't even know which one is good," you are definitely not alone.

Quick translation: 🐂 Bull: Green numbers, high vibes, everyone feels like a genius. 🐻 Bear: Red numbers, big sighs, everyone suddenly forgets their login password.

Trying to time the wildlife on your own is a full-time headache. The good news? You don't have to guess. Having a real plan means knowing when to protect your portfolio and when to grow it, no matter which mascot is making noise on the news.

Send me a quick message if you want to chat about how this might impact your family.

Here's a scenario I see all the time:

Generation 1 calculates their retirement budget: "Great, we need $X to live comfortably."

Generation 2 breaks out in a cold sweat thinking: "If we pay you $X every year, our kids are wearing bread bags over their boots this winter." …

It's completely normal. You've worked your whole life to build this operation, and you've earned the right to step back without worrying about paying your bills. But the incoming generation also needs enough cash flow left over to survive a dry year and build a future of their own.

The secret? Don't make next year's crop do all the heavy lifting for two separate households.

When you tap into independent cash flow streams, everyone breathes a lot easier.

(Rocky Mountain House friends: I'm putting together a local workshop on this very topic in a few weeks. Stay tuned for dates!)

Whether you punched a clock for thirty years, ran your own business, or worked the family farm, walking away from work is downright weird.

Your whole life, you produce something, and cash comes in. So the thought of retiring feels like jumping off the barn roof and praying there is a soft pile of straw waiting below.

That panic usually shows up in funny ways:

• Staying on the job way past your expiry date instead of playing with the grandkids

• Living on a strict canned soup budget when your accounts say you can order the steak

• Buying into crazy investment fads because you think you need to make up for lost time

You worked way too hard to let fear run your golden years. 🌾

Send me a quick message if you want to chat about how this might impact your family.

Jordan and I started bringing Casey to concerts when he was four years old. Giant blue ear protection on his head, riding up on our shoulders, and fast asleep in the wagon before the final song. 🎸

This week we are taking him to the Foo Fighters show for his tenth birthday.

No wagon, no earmuffs, just my kid singing every word right beside us in the crowd.

The years go by so fast, but these loud nights with my boys are the absolute best.
