Attention AML Compliance Officers:

Fintrac released three videos this week relating to AML compliance in the mortgage broker business. While these videos don't offer the entertainment value of Hangover (part I) or Cannonball Run, they do provide a good overview of the basics. For most of you, you'll watch these dry vids and simply say, 'yep, I'm crushing this!'. That's exactly what we want for you. We want you absolutely comfortable with your obligations when Fintrac arrives. When we get there, I promise to quit being so annoying...

The ABCs of Ai Compliance in brokerages:

A - Amend your Policies and Procedures - set out your Ai expectations and requirements.

B - Broker Education - make sure your brokers are not using free platforms and are only using walled secure tools.

C - Customer Consent - advise your clients your brokerage uses Ai. While your brokers select and use Ai tools prudently, there are risks snd the client should consent.

The world is still adjusting to Ai but we expect Ai usage in our space will only continue. We welcome the efficiencies that come with Ai but we all need to be prudent in our use so that customer personal information is protected and customers are aware that we’re using Ai.

Meet Margo and Walter, your AI concierge for AML and BC MSA questions. Our very own Dave Teixeira has just shared email links to our two new AI tools (yes, of course they needed names).

Margo is absolutely delightful and she'd be happy to answer your AML questions. In my mind, Margo loves riding her Harley and baking snickerdoodles. She scans all the applicable FINTRAC regs when providing you an answer. Go ahead, put her to work.

And then there's Walter. He's an older gentleman (a tad cranky) very knowledgeable on the new BC MSA and the transition requirements. He loves scanning BCFSA regs to provide you with prompt answers.

Anybody looking for a good sales read?

Just finished Influence: The Psychology of Persuassion. It's one of Charlie Munger's fav books calling it one of the best sales books of our time.

It focusses on social psychology and human behavior associated with sales. The chapters on reciprocity and social proof blew my tiny mind. Basically explains the 'why' behind the most successful sales techniques.

Will send first three asks a gift copy on Audiobooks but you have to agree to share a book review.

Are you including all client emails, texts and notes in your compliance files?

When assisting brokers with regulatory reviews, the most common issue we see is that material emails, texts and file notes are missing from the file. Another good reason to use your network provided email address so that emails can be recovered if they aren't in your file.

Also, if you prefer to text with your clients, remember to screenshot those texts and include them in your file.

What to save? Any communications relating to the application or the mortgage.
