Profit is a number. Cash flow is a timeline.
This is one of the most important concepts in business finance.
A company can report a profit while still experiencing a cash shortage. Why? Because profit is calculated using accounting principles that do not always match the timing of actual cash coming in and going out.
For example, a business might make a sale today but receive payment from the customer several weeks later. The sale may affect reported revenue before the cash actually reaches the bank account.
On the other hand, a business might receive money upfront for something it still needs to deliver.
That is why looking at only one financial number rarely tells the complete story. Profit answers one question, while cash flow answers another.
๐ Profit matters.
๐ต Cash matters.
๐ง Understanding the difference matters even more.
