WMB Stars | Meet Sebastian Arakaki Yamakawa

Building the next generation of professionals starts with giving them opportunities to learn, contribute, and grow.

That’s where Sebastian Arakaki’s journey at Wilson M. Beck Insurance Alberta began.

Currently a third-year Accounting student at the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business, Sebastian joined WMB Alberta as a Co-op student and, after five months, earned a 12 month extension as an Accounting Associate.

“It has allowed me to take what I’m learning in class and apply it in a real business environment.” — Sebastian Arakaki

Today, Sebastian supports accounts receivable, accounts payable, reconciliations, and other key accounting functions that help keep our operations running smoothly.

His journey reflects something we strongly believe in at WMB Alberta: creating meaningful opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience while building the skills that will shape their future careers.

A great few days with Concrete Alberta.

Wilson M. Beck Insurance Alberta was proud to be part of Concrete Alberta’s Annual General Meeting and Convention at Kananaskis Mountain Lodge, including the final day golf event at Kananaskis Golf Club.

Jalmer Lien, Account Executive, Commercial Lines, and Dillon Buzan, Account Executive, Surety, had the opportunity to connect with members throughout the convention, from the trade show to the closing golf event.

We were also pleased to support the event through hospitality sponsorships, prize draws, and giveaways, helping create a welcoming experience for members throughout the convention.

AI may speed up claims processing. But when people are in distress, the human side still matters.

According to Canadian Underwriter’s Philip Porado, technology is expected to play a growing role in claims triage and efficiency, but industry experts say human adjusters will remain critical for empathy, judgment, and complex conversations during difficult moments.

The report notes that AI can help streamline parts of the claims process, especially in handling initial intake and directing claims more efficiently.

But when customers are dealing with loss, confusion, or emotional stress, live conversations and human understanding remain essential.

👶 FUN FACT: Parents Could Insure Against Twins

In 2008, Multiple Birth Insurance was being offered in the UK for parents worried about the unexpected cost of having twins or triplets.

The idea was simple.

If parents had more than one baby at once, the policy could pay a cash benefit.

Because two babies do not just mean twice the joy.

They can also mean two car seats, two cribs, more childcare, more appointments, and a much bigger financial adjustment.

Now here is the interesting insurance part 👇

The policy had to be purchased early in pregnancy, before the first ultrasound, and coverage depended on strict conditions.

Would every twin birth qualify?

Not necessarily.

Fun fact on the surface.

Serious lesson underneath.
