Canada just ranked 22nd out of 50 countries for cross-border payments interoperability. 🤯

For a G7 economy, that should get our attention.

To be clear, Canada scored well for economic strength and digital infrastructure.

Where we fell behind was ex*****on. Specifically, how effectively our payments modernization efforts are translating into real-world outcomes for businesses and consumers.
But thankfully, the next 12 months could change that.

We're on the cusp of several major milestones:
⚡ Real-Time Rail is expected to launch later this year.
⚡ Open Banking regulations have now been published for consultation.
⚡ Other moderinization efforts such as stablecoin regulation and acceptable infrastructure are coming into view.

The pieces are finally coming together, and now comes the important part: proving they deliver measurable value in the real world. The next chapter of Canadian payments will be defined by adoption.

We’d love to hear from others in the industry: what's the biggest ex*****on gap you believe Canada still needs to close? 🤔

Price matters. But it probably shouldn't be the first thing you evaluate in a banking partner.

If you're building a fintech, we'd argue these five questions are even more important:

⚡ Which payment rails can they actually support?
⚡ Does their risk appetite align with your business model?
⚡ How mature are their compliance processes?
⚡ How robust are their APIs and developer experience?
⚡ How are they positioned for Canada's evolving regulatory environment?

The banking partner behind your product becomes part of your infrastructure. Choosing the right one can save months of engineering effort, reduce compliance headaches, and make it much easier to scale when the time comes.

We unpack each of these considerations in our latest blog: 🔗 https://hubs.ly/Q04qTD8g0

Choosing a banking partner used to be fairly straightforward. But today, it can determine how quickly (and how successfully) your fintech scales.

With Real-Time Rail approaching, the RPAA now in force, and open banking on the horizon, the infrastructure sitting underneath your product matters more than ever.

The right partner should help you move faster, stay compliant, and support your growth—not become a bottleneck!

In our latest blog, we explore the questions every Canadian fintech should be asking before choosing a banking partner in 2026.

Everyone's talking about Real-Time Rail launching later this year.

But here's what many Canadian businesses don't realize:

Instant payouts already exist. ⚡

If you're waiting for RTR before modernizing your payout experience, you may be waiting longer than you need to.

Today, businesses can already send funds in near real-time using Visa Direct® and Mastercard Send®, helping move money quickly and securely over payment rails Canadians already know and trust.

Some common use cases include:
➕ Paying gig workers immediately after a shift
➕ Settling marketplace sellers faster
➕ Issuing insurance claim payouts
➕ Processing refunds in minutes instead of days
➕ Sending cross-border disbursements

And because DCPayments supports online portal, SFTP, and API integrations, businesses can choose the implementation approach that fits their operations today.
When RTR launches, it'll become another powerful rail to build on. But the opportunity to offer faster payouts is already here.

Let’s talk about security risks with embedded payments. 💭

As payments become embedded inside software, new vulnerabilities can appear between platforms, processors, and merchants.

Here are a few of the biggest ones 👇

➕ Inconsistent tokenization across different systems
➕ Unclear ownership of security and compliance responsibilities
➕ More connected devices and payment touchpoints creating additional attack surfaces
➕ New regulatory expectations under Canada's Retail Payment Activities Act (RPAA)

Embedded payments simply need to be designed with security built in from the start, not added after the product launches. We dive deeper into what "security by design" looks like in our latest blog.

Read it here: 🔗 https://hubs.li/Q04qTj520

Embedded payments are becoming the default. Whether it's booking software, marketplaces, SaaS platforms, or mobile apps, payments are increasingly happening inside the products people already use every day.

That's great for the customer experience… but it also creates new security and compliance risks that many businesses aren't thinking about until it's too late. 😓

As payment data moves across multiple platforms, providers, and devices, questions like “who owns security?” and “where does compliance actually begin?” become a lot more complicated.

In our latest blog, we explore the biggest security gaps emerging in embedded payments and what businesses can do to close them before they become costly problems.

Fintech is growing quickly in Canada, and it’s changing us for the better.

The industry is making a tangible impact by:

➕ reducing barriers to entry for financial services
➕ expanding financial inclusion
➕ making transactions faster
➕ improving financial transparency
➕ lowering operational costs

For businesses making or receiving payments, those shifts have a direct impact on everything from customer experience to cash flow to how quickly new products can get to market.

We break down all five in our latest blog: https://hubs.li/Q04mYNk60

Fintech is changing the world for the better by making financial services more accessible.

It’s lowering barriers to entry for businesses that want to build financial products, expanding access for people who have historically been underserved by traditional financial systems, and creating more ways for individuals and businesses to move and manage money.

Here in Canada, that kind of access is positively impacting businesses, consumers, and entire economies.

We break down five ways fintech is changing the world for the better in our latest blog: https://hubs.li/Q04mYWpF0
