I am the father of two daughters, one adult and one teenager. I was born in Cranbrook, BC but have called SW Calgary home for the last 37 years. I have lived, worked and raised my family in this community. I work hard and try to stay healthy by eating well and going to the gym four days a week. I enjoy music and can play guitar and drums and though most of my musical ambition is in my past, I try to keep the rust off these days. My big dream is to buy a boat and sail the Caribbean before attempting an Atlantic crossing bound for the Mediterranean. What is your biggest dream?

Today, on National Indigenous Peoples Day, we honor and celebrate the diverse cultures, languages, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

Like the related Indigenous philosophy that encourages individuals consider the impact of their decisions seven generations into the future, our purpose-driven firm strives to create positive generational impact.

This day reminds us of the importance of meaningful reconciliation. It's about listening to stories, respecting traditions, and supporting Indigenous communities in building prosperous futures on their own terms.

Business owners have unique income splitting opportunities - but they also come with strict rules and conditions.

Family members who actively work in your business may be eligible to earn a salary or dividends, potentially spreading income across lower tax brackets. However, Tax on Split Income (TOSI) rules impose complex requirements that must be carefully followed to avoid punitive taxation.

I work alongside your qualified tax or legal professional to help you evaluate income splitting strategies that comply with TOSI regulations. Reach out to discuss your business structure.

Income splitting is a strategy to level out income earned by spouses to reduce tax bills.

The Bank of Canada held its policy rate at 2.25%.

Key factors behind the decision:

• Job seekers are unemployed longer with youth most impacted
• A temporary rise in inflation from higher oil and gas prices
• Ongoing risks from CUSMA negotiations and geopolitical uncertainty

If you have questions about how the Bank of Canada's latest rate decision impacts your financial plan, reach out. I'm happy to help.
