If you squint at John Carpenter’s seminal Halloween (1978), you could maybe view it as an allegory for the struggles of a small business, with Jamie Lee Curtis representing your business, and the predatory Michael Myers stalking her through the dark corridors of her house standing in for…? Rival businesses? The CRA? That feeling of dread you get when your revenue dries up just as a prime opportunity presents itself?

Perhaps that’s a little strained. Okay, it’s extraordinarily strained. We’re taking it easy today – it’s Halloween, after all.
