This one thing SERIOUSLY makes me pull my hair out. Ugh, it's soooo frustrating!🤦‍♂️

It just makes me feel so sleazy and I just refuse to do it.

You go on the internet, maybe on the insta or the FB, or maybe you've moved onto the tiktoks, you're scrolling around enjoying some super awesome cat videos, and BAM! mortgage ad.

It shows some sweet mortgage rate and you're thinking, damn, I want that!

So you pick up the phone, call the number and get told "oh, that's actually not available". Or worse yet, you go through the whole application process only to find out AFTER that it's not available in your area, or in your specific scenario, or it's some silly mortgage product you would never want.

The ol'used car salesman bait and switch.

It's a classic move! And it makes me want to puke. 🤢

Consider this a Public Service Announcement. Don't fall for it.

Find a broker you can trust, someone who isn't affiliated with any one lender preferably (because that's a whole other can of worms), and work with them.

Not sure what's happening in real estate?

I don't blame you! Even the big economists and experts have been getting it wrong.

All we know is what's happening right now.

Rates going up? Sort of! The media doesn't really cover the full story. Shocker.

Variable rates are up, yup! Those are controlled by the Bank of Canada and they've increased rates 8 meetings in a row.

Fixed rates? Gone up and now have been coming down for several months straight.

Still, there's a huge difference in rates from one lender to the next.

My only goal in life is to get you the best rates and terms on your next mortgage. So...we should probably chat 🤗

Meet your broker! That's me, Bart, and of course my better half Holly, and our Beast Olive.

I'm just a regular guy who's spent a good portion of his life in the mortgage world. Crazy to think it's been over 15 years. 🤯

To be honest I find mortgages kind of boring, but the thing that keeps me going is connecting with awesome people.

Over the years I've reviewed, approved, and helped so many families get into homes that they'll create a lifetimes of memories in.

For others I've helped achieve financial goals. Invest in real estate, save on high interest debt, buy holiday homes...

That's what makes me happy. That makes me tick.

Good advice can be hard to come by, and having someone in your corner, looking out for your best interest will help.

Even though mortgage brokers have been around for a long time, I still get asked this question daily:

"How much does it cost to use your service?"

The quick answer? Nothing!

In fact, if you're NOT using a broker, how do you know you're getting the best mortgage?

Are you going to trust your branch to tell you their competition has a better deal?

Or are you going to go from one bank to the next, doing multiplie applications, pulling multiple credit checks?

Doesn't sound like a lot of fun 😂

Rates are important, but so are the individual terms and conditions. I see so many clients that get a great rate, only to pay for it ten fold in the future because they didn't know there was more to it.

Life is one heck of a ride!

Who knew way back in 2007, when I started my mortgage career, that I’d be living here in Northern British Columbia so many years later.

It all began in a land far, far away, in the city of London Ontario.

I started my career mortgage brokering, right before the sub-prime market crash. Great time to get into the industry!

A few years later, through twists and turns I ended up working for one of Canada’s largest independent mortgage banks.

Seeing how or why a mortgage gets approved has since proved invaluable. I know first hand the decision making process and the often overlooked terms and conditions of mortgages.

I moved around, from London, to Kitchener, to Vancouver, to Spain and now, my wife Holly, our dog Olive and I are happy to call Calgary home.

With over a 15+ years of Canadian mortgage industry experience, I love helping clients navigate one of the biggest decisions they’ll make in their lives - buying a home.
