Building on the theme of resilience, our next highlight features Dr. Karyn Gordon of DK Leadership and Success Intelligence who led a crucial talk on stress management and refueling. 💡

With anxiety, loneliness and burnout at an all-time high, it’s more important than ever for employees to prioritize self-care and wellness. Managing stress before it leads to burnout is a requirement for strong performance, yet employees are often unaware of where they’re at. Using the stress management Scorecard can help them (and you) see the signs ahead of time, and identify the skills needed to refuel.

A friendly reminder – it’s time to update your plan records for full-time students and over-age dependents!

As the new school year approaches, it's important to update records for over-age dependents to keep coverage in place for full-time students, and ensure the benefits plan isn't paying for ineligible dependents. If a dependent reaches the plan’s lower age limit but isn’t a full-time student, their coverage ends; if a dependent is previously identified as a full-time student but hasn’t reached the upper age limit, they’ll continue to have coverage.

To stay up to date, please:

✏️Check your policy’s upper age limit for full-time students.
✏️Ask your employees with over-age dependents whether their dependent is a full-time student, with proof of enrolment.
✏️Update any records to show that the dependent qualifies.

We’re here to help make any changes as easy as possible! Please reach out at [email protected] and a member of our team would be proud to help you. 📧

📚🎧📖 August's WP Book+ Club recommendation is a program, TVO: The Rundown – Can Indigenous Voices Reshape Canada's Next Big Projects?

🔗 Watch the program here: https://www.tvo.org/video/can-indigenous-voices-reshape-canadas-next-big-projects

Canada is preparing for major nation-building projects while entering trade talks with the US and Mexico, promising partnership with Indigenous peoples but leaving questions about what that means in practice. How will those commitments be carried out, and whose voices will shape the outcome? At the same time, Indigenous humour offers insight into culture, identity, and connection, reflecting shared experience while challenging assumptions. Anishinaabe journalist Tanya Talaga and author Drew Hayden Taylor join the conversation.

For our next speaker spotlight we are proud to share Rachel Hunt, Founder & CEO, Freedom School, who spoke to us about her journey walking between two worlds. 🪶

As a second-generation survivor of the impacts of residential school, she uses a variety of modalities to help Indigenous women and entrepreneurs become “Cycle Breakers.” Together we explored the five pillars of strengthening self-leadership and resilience: Spirit, Body, Mind, Values, and Community, helping us walk our talk and create a ripple effect. We joined in Butterfly Tapping (bilateral stimulation) and an achievement manifestation visualization to help embody the learnings.

📰 News update - Kiniw Tenasco, a Woodland dancer, won the hearts of folks at the Saugeen First Nation powwow this past weekend and online after his mom shared a video of him.

Sunshine Tenasco, Anishinabe from Kitigan Zibi in Que., captioned the video that her son was born with Down syndrome and cerebral palsy.

"When he was born I cried so often because I was scared he wouldn’t fit in," she wrote.

"I forgot for a bit how beautiful our people are because you see these people running up. They're shooting money at his feet to acknowledge his medicine because they all see what I see…love," wrote Sunshine.

The video, shared to TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, shows Kiniw dancing in his category while other dancers run up to him dropping money at his feet as a sign of respect. It's been viewed and shared thousands of times and has garnered several comments.

Kiniw is 17 years old, and told CBC Indigenous that he's been dancing since he was five or six years old.

This past weekend, he said, "I won and that's it." He was happy people cheered for him, especially his mom.

He said dancing makes him feel good and he loves dancing for his sisters, papa and his mom, of course.
