This first week of November marks Treaties Recognition Week across Ontario, a week to appreciate the importance of Treaties as well as the Treaty relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities in Ontario.

The week also serves as an important effort in increasing Treaty awareness, and to help Ontarians understand the significance of Treaty rights, relationships and their ongoing relevance in the province.

Each November marks Movember, a movement dedicated to raising awareness of men’s health issues including mental health, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer.

Some of Movember’s work includes efforts to bolster the social and emotional wellbeing of Indigenous men and boys around the world.

Co-written by Cole Forrest and Kelsey Borgford, the poetry of Once the Smudge is Lit carries the reader into deeply spiritual elements of Nishnaabe/Ojibwe culture and highlight the Indigenous experience in post-colonial times through explorations of themes ranging from love to community.

Bogford’s and Forrest’s verses seek to open a multidimensional window into the experience of being a contemporary Nishaabe. A profound sense of movement, connection, and continuity is emphasized by Tessa Pizzale’s beautifully evocative illustrations.

Secret Path Week is a national movement commemorating the legacies of Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack. This year marks its 10th anniversary. 💜

The Downie Wenjack Fund invites all people in Canada to participate through a reconciliACTION – a meaningful action that moves reconciliation forward. ReconciliACTIONs aim to bring Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples together in the spirit of reconciliation to create awareness, share and learn together.

They also encourage you to Walk for Wenjack this Secret Path Week to honour Chanie’s legacy and raise awareness of the history of residential schools.

This week marks Workplace Bullying Awareness Week — an opportunity to raise awareness about workplace bullying, promote psychological safety, and help create healthier, more respectful work environments.

Having a prevention strategy in place can help employers and employees recognize concerns early, respond appropriately, and reduce the risk of interpersonal harm escalating in the workplace.
