Stamp duty can cost potential home buyers upwards of $30,000, but in 2026, most states have massive "get out of jail free" cards for eligible first-home buyers.
☀️ QLD — Full exemption on established homes up to $700k. For new builds, the exemption applies regardless of the property value.

🏙️ NSW — Full exemption on new and existing homes up to $800k. Concessions apply for properties up to $1 million.

🛤️ VIC — Full exemption on homes up to $600k. Tapered concessions are available for properties between $600k and $750k.

🏖️ WA — Full exemption on homes up to $500k. Perth buyers can receive a concession on properties valued up to $700k and regional buyers can access concessions on properties valued up to $750k.

🍷 SA — Stamp duty is waived for all eligible first-home buyers building or buying a brand-new home, with no property value cap.

Statistically, 83% of Australians let their financial resolutions slip before the end of January. Why? Because resolutions are usually about "deprivation," while habits are about "systems."

If you're planning to apply for a home loan in 2026, banks aren't looking for a one-month sprint of saving - they’re looking for a marathon of consistency.

Instead of a resolution like "I will save $20k," try these 3 habits:

💸 Pay yourself first. Set up an automatic transfer to your savings the second your salary hits. If you don't see it, you won't spend it.

📱Do a subscription audit. Check your bank statement once a month. Cancel the streaming services and apps you haven't touched in 30 days. It’s small, but it stops "lifestyle creep".

⏳3-day rule. For any non-essential purchase over $100, wait 72 hours. If you still want it then, buy it. This kills the impulse spending that can hurt your "conduct" in the eyes of a lender.
