Plumtree Town Council, through its ๐๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ด๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐ ๐๐ผ๐บ๐บ๐ถ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฒ, has intensified efforts to promote ethical conduct and strengthen the fight against corruption within the local authority.
The Integrity Committee recently conducted an anti-corruption awareness lecture for Council employees across all departments, with the programme focusing on ethical conduct, accountability, transparency and the importance of safeguarding public resources.
Employees were encouraged to uphold high standards of integrity in the ex*****on of their duties and to refrain from participating in corrupt practices or syndicates. They were also urged to report suspected cases of corruption through the appropriate channels to enable timely investigation and action.
Speaking during the opening of the programme, the Town Secretary Mr T Nyoni emphasised the importance of accountability, particularly among employees entrusted with handling Council revenue.
"If one is mandated to collect parking fees, those parking fees should be surrendered to Council in their fullest, not taking part of the money for personal use. If found otherwise, a disciplinary action will be taken against you.โ*
The Town Secretaryโs remarks underscored Councilโs position that public funds must be handled responsibly and accounted for in full.
As part of the initiative, Council intends to roll out further integrity and anti-corruption training across all departments. Employees will also be expected to make formal pledges towards upholding integrity and rejecting corruption in the workplace.
The programme is part of Councilโs broader efforts to strengthen good governance, accountability and ethical service delivery. Through continuous awareness and employee participation, Council seeks to foster a workplace culture where corruption is rejected, misconduct is reported and public resources are protected for the benefit of the Plumtree community.
