Repairs and maintenance are ongoing on a daily basis at the Harare Spca.
At the moment we are in the process of digging a new soak away for one of the kennels blocks at thd rehoming kennels.
We are looking for donations of roofing sheets to cover the soakaway so we can complete the work ASAP.
Please help. Delivery of the roofing sheets would be bonus.

Puppy walks are essential so they get used to a leash and collar/ or harness.
They love going out to explore and to pick up new scents. Some pups are a little shy and some are bouncy and confident. In the right homes and with the right handling they will become perfect family companions

*Hello to all our amazing Harare SPCA supporters!

First, a huge thank you to everyone who continues to donate items to care for the animals. Your generosity truly makes a difference to their daily lives.

*Here’s how you can help us most right now:*
- *Containers*: We’re fully stocked on small plastic pots. What we need most are clean *1 litre yoghurt tubs with lids*, and *2 litre or 5 litre ice cream tubs with lids*.
- *Toys*: Dog, puppy and cat toys in good, safe condition are loved by everyone here.
- *Dog jackets*: The jackets you’ve donated have been a lifesaver this winter. Thank you! If you happen to have sewing skills and would like to help repair jackets with missing straps, velcro or fastenings, we’d be so grateful to connect with you.
- *Dog beds*: Beds in decent condition give our dogs such comfort. Beds that are very worn tend to get shredded, so sturdy ones work best for our playful crew.

We’re committed to keeping the shelter clean, safe and comfortable for every animal. That’s why we focus on items that can be used right away and last a long time.

*Because of you this winter:*
Senior dogs have slept on cushioned beds with extra blankets. Our most vulnerable pups even had pyjamas on the coldest nights. And when cupboards were low, donated food meant every animal got 2, 3 or even 4 meals a day depending on what they needed.

Your kindness keeps our rescued animals safe, warm and well cared for. Their lives matter so much to us, and we’re able to give them the best quality of life because of you.

Hello animal lovers.
Its been a very busy year at our Harare Spca Shelter.
Incoming numbers of cats and dogs have been higher than ever before.
We have had to scratch together as much as possible to refurbish an unused block of kennels to accomodate the increasing numbers pouring in.
We have RUN OUT OF CARPETS that we use to line the dog beds with.Blankets are put over the carpets for comfort and warmth.
If you are recarpeting, throwing out old carpets or have unwanted carpets lying around, please contact us. They would be most appreciated .

This large cross breed, sterilized female is looking for a caring home. No small dogs and no cats please.
Adoption policies strictly apply. These can be found at the top of our page. All adoption criteria need to be met. These will be discussed with an Inspector at our rehoming kennels. Please book an appointment in advance.
We reserve the right to choose the most suitable home for all the dogs in our care. Adoption is not on a first come, first served basis.
Adoptions are not free of charge.

Important information

🐾 Not every dog wants to be touched — and that's okay.

Dogs are not public property, and we should never assume that an unfamiliar (or even familiar) dog is inviting interaction just by being present.

The golden rule: don't approach unknown dogs. Give them space, stay relaxed, look slightly away, and let them come to you.

And even when a dog does approach you, sniffing, standing nearby, or coming close is NOT necessarily an invitation to pat them. Wait for clearer signals — loose, relaxed body language, leaning into your leg, gentle eye contact, a nudge, a paw, or a play bow. Those are consent.

Once you have those signals, you can ask their guardian if it's okay to interact. Keep it brief, and pause to check if they want to continue.

🚫 Avoid: patting on the head, pushing your hand in their face, hugging, or overwhelming them with too many people or too much intensity.

⚠️ Signs a dog is uncomfortable: lip licking, yawning, looking away, moving away, ears pinned back, tail tucked, whale eye (whites of the eyes showing) — and of course snapping or growling, which is an immediate request for more space.

This applies to children too — teaching kids that unknown dogs are not to be approached is one of the most important lessons we can pass on.
