| Mentorship Today. Leaders Tomorrow.
At the IIZ Winter School 2026, IIZ President Dr. Clementine Chinyuku shared a compelling vision for the future of the insurance profession, one built on mentorship, continuous professional development, and empowering the next generation of leaders.

Introducing peer mentoring as a key feature of the Winter School, she emphasised that learning should never be one-directional. Instead, the platform creates opportunities for professionals to mentor, be mentored, and learn from one another, ensuring that every voice contributes to the growth of the industry.

Her message was clear: Winter School is not about seniors speaking to juniors. It is about building an inclusive profession where knowledge is shared, experience is valued, and future leaders are nurtured. https://youtu.be/ZlcSlOJ6-1E

🔷 | Building Africa’s Reinsurance Resilience 🔷

This week, we spotlight Mutsunge Lawrence Nazare, Group Managing Director of Continental Reinsurance Holdings, a distinguished leader whose journey from law to reinsurance has grown into a remarkable story of Pan-African institution-building.

After training as a lawyer and beginning his professional career in Harare’s courtrooms, Lawrence entered the reinsurance industry at Zimbabwe Reinsurance Corporation in 1990. Today, he leads one of Africa’s foremost Pan-African reinsurance groups, championing stronger institutions and greater retention of Africa’s risks and premiums.

Under his leadership, Continental Reinsurance Holdings established a new domicile in the Botswana International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) and embarked on a landmark IPO towards listing on the Botswana Stock Exchange.

At the heart of Lawrence’s leadership is a commitment to addressing Africa’s insurance protection gap. He believes that building resilient African institutions is essential to strengthening the continent’s capacity to manage its own risks and shape its economic future.

His contribution to the industry extends across the continent, with leadership roles involving the Insurance Council of Zimbabwe (ICZ), Insurance Institute of Zimbabwe (IIZ), OESAI, and the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA).

For Lawrence, Pan-Africanism is more than an ideal. It is a strategy for building stronger institutions, resilient markets and a more secure African future.
