ZNCC and the Ministry of Skills Audit and Development strengthen partnership on skills for economic transformation!

The Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC)and the Ministry of Skills Audit and Development today signed an MOU to strengthen industry, academia and Government collaboration on skills development.

The partnership will anchor an Annual Skills Indaba, beginning with a manufacturing sector skills survey and analysis, alongside structured industry input into tertiary education curricula and skills development.

As the Minister emphasised, the partnership will apply the triple helix model of Government, industry and academia to close skills gaps, support Vision 2030, reduce unnecessary imports and strengthen Zimbabwe's export capacity.

Speaking at the 2026 Zimbabwe Agricultural Show Breakfast Meeting, Mr. Louis Muhigirwa, Deputy Representative of the and Agriculture Organization (FAO), commended the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) and the Zimbabwe Agricultural Society (ZAS) for convening a timely dialogue under the theme, "Powering Growth: Where Agriculture, Technology and Commerce Converge."

Mr. Muhigirwa noted that Zimbabwe possesses significant agricultural productive capacity, but the priority now is strengthening the bridges that connect producers to retailers, processors and export markets.

He emphasized that connecting agri-producers to markets is not merely relevant, but essential, particularly in developing economies where smallholder farmers form the backbone of agricultural production. Innovation, he said, only delivers impact when it reaches the farmers and enterprises that need it most.

Reflecting on the effects of climate variability, including El Niño-induced weather patterns, he called for accelerated adoption of climate-smart agriculture, precision farming technologies and innovative approaches that help break the cycle of vulnerability and build resilience.

Mr. Muhigirwa further highlighted the importance of integrating smallholder farmers into modern value chains through improved market access, financial inclusion, compliance with quality standards and stronger partnerships across the agricultural ecosystem.

He stressed that no single stakeholder can address these challenges alone and that meaningful transformation requires collaboration among Government, producers, financiers, retailers, development partners and technology providers.

Reaffirming the United Nations' commitment to Zimbabwe, he reiterated support for efforts to modernize and climate-proof the agri-food sector, ensuring that agricultural transformation is inclusive, sustainable and capable of delivering equitable growth for all.

Speaking at the 2026 Zimbabwe Agricultural Show Breakfast Meeting, Zimbabwe Agricultural Society President Mr. Ngoni Kudenga underscored the importance of strengthening the link between agricultural production and markets.
He noted that while Zimbabwe has made progress in production, challenges such as inconsistent volumes and quality, unsustainable financing, and regulatory constraints continue to limit producers' access to markets. These are challenges that cannot be overcome by farmers alone.
Mr. Kudenga emphasized the need for stronger collaboration among Government, financial institutions, retailers, producers and other value chain actors, highlighting that today's platform brings together the right stakeholders for candid discussions and credible solutions.
He identified five priority areas for action:
• Better market intelligence
• Earlier communication of buyer requirements
• Stronger aggregation and coordination for consistent supply
• Finance and risk management linked to credible off-take arrangements
• Cost reduction and minimisation of post-harvest losses
Importantly, he stressed that women and youth must remain central to agricultural value chain development.
Mr. Kudenga also encouraged delegates to use the wider Zimbabwe Agricultural Show to identify technologies, partnerships and business relationships that can be pursued beyond the exhibition week.

Speaking at the 2026 Zimbabwe Agricultural Show Breakfast Meeting, ZNCC Chief Executive Officer highlighted the importance of deliberate dialogue under the theme:

"Powering Growth: Where Agriculture, Technology and Commerce Converge."

He noted that the Chamber has a critical role to play in shaping policies that promote competitiveness, unlock market opportunities and accelerate industrial growth.

Drawing attention to global trade dynamics, Mugaga observed that Africa's agricultural export potential remains significant, citing the growing value of exports into China and the opportunities created through market access initiatives such as agricultural "green lanes".

He challenged stakeholders to reflect on a key question:

Why are some products failing to reach the market?

Is it a quality issue? A market intelligence gap? A logistics challenge? Or are policy and regulatory barriers standing in the way?

The discussion also aligns with the ZNCC 2026 theme: "From Resilience to Competitiveness: Charting a New Path for Sustainable Industrial Growth," which resonates strongly with the Zimbabwe Agricultural Society's focus on linking agriculture, technology and commerce.

Key issues raised included:

Trade and market intelligence
Logistics and supply chain efficiency

ZNCC Hosts World Bank Group Delegation on Zimbabwe Scoping Mission

The ZNCC was pleased to host a delegation from the IFC - International Finance Corporation and the World Bank, both members of the World Bank Group, as part of its ongoing scoping mission in Zimbabwe.

The delegation was led by Shingirai Mujaji (Investment Officer, IFC) and comprised representatives from both IFC and the World Bank. They were received by ZNCC Immediate Past President, Mr. Tapiwa Karoro, together with the ZNCC Senior Economist and Membership Executive.

The meeting provided an important platform to discuss Zimbabwe's business landscape, key opportunities for private sector growth, and prevailing challenges facing enterprises. Discussions covered potential areas where IFC can support business expansion, investment, access to finance, and advisory services.

As the private sector continues to play a pivotal role in Zimbabwe's economic transformation, partnerships between business representative organizations and development finance institutions remain critical in fostering sustainable growth, competitiveness, and job creation.
