Success Story: Shilla Nduluma – From One Loan to a Thriving Business in Mphansya, Rufunsa
In the heart of Mphansya, Rufunsa District, Lusaka Province, one woman’s determination is changing her family’s future stitch by stitch.

That woman is Shilla Nduluma, a business lady whose journey with UMINO began in 2020 with a loan of K3,000.
The Beginning
When Shilla first approached UMINO, she had a vision but limited capital. She dreamed of expanding beyond small tailoring jobs and building something her children could be proud of.
With her first K3,000 loan, she didn’t waste time. She invested in an industrial sewing machine the tool that would become the engine of her business. She’s Currently saving a k15,000 loan which is her eighth loan from 2020.
Building More Than a Shop
The impact was immediate. With the industrial machine, Shilla could take on bigger orders, work faster, and deliver quality that brought customers back.
She’s now able to save. As her income grew, she made another bold move: she built her own shop. No more working from home or renting space. She now had a permanent place in Mphansya where clients could find her, and where her brand began to grow.
But for Shilla, success wasn’t just about business.
“The most important thing was my children,” she says. With the profits from her tailoring business, she managed to keep her children in school, giving them the education she always wanted for them.
The Ripple Effect
Today, Shilla’s shop is a hub in the community. She employed two (2) local youth to help with orders, mentors other women who want to start tailoring, and continues to grow her client base across Rufunsa District.
What started as a K3,000 loan has turned into a sustainable business, a built asset, and a better future for her family.
Her Message “UMINO believed in me when I started small. That loan changed everything. Now I have my own shop, my machine, and my children are in school. I tell other women: start where you are, use the opportunity well, and work hard.”
Shilla Nduluma’s story is proof that with the right support and determination, small loans.
