This month, we rolled out our Financial Literacy Program, aimed at reaching over 1,200 of our clients across our branches. Lest us look at the progress we’ve made together so far.

🌱Building Stronger Entrepreneurs Together. 🌱

As part of Umino’s commitment to offering credible and practical business advice, we have launched a series of financial literacy trainings across six branches. This initiative supports our mandate to strengthen small businesses by equipping entrepreneurs with essential skills in record keeping, financial management, debt management, and cost control.

To enhance learning, clients are using Umino’s Daily Cash Sales Book a simple yet powerful tool that helps business owners track daily income and expenses. This practical tool encourages disciplined record keeping, which is key to informed financial decision‑making and long‑term business growth. The program also builds on the ongoing work of our loan officers who provide continuous business advisory support in the field.

📍 Our February Field Trainings

• 2nd February – Mpanshya: A great start with engaged entrepreneurs eager to learn.
• 3rd February – Rufunsa: Another successful session with enthusiastic local business owners.
• 4th February – Sinjela: Strong participation and positive feedback.
• 5th February – Chinyunyu: A vibrant session with entrepreneurs ready to improve their financial skills.

Across all locations, the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Participants appreciated the practical tools, clear lessons, and supportive facilitators. These sessions are helping entrepreneurs build stronger businesses and contributing to economic resilience in their communities.
Umino remains committed to promoting financial awareness, responsible borrowing, and sustainable business management. Through this initiative, we continue to uplift communities, empower small business owners, and give clients the confidence they need to succeed.

Happy Monday 💪🌱as we commence the week Let’s hear from Stephen Phiri from Chadiza District who shares how Umino loans have transformed his business and his life…

🌟 Stephen Phiri – Chadiza District 🌟

From humble beginnings to thriving success, Stephen Phiri’s journey is proof that determination and the right support can change lives.

Stephen started his grocery business at Chadiza New Market in 2020 with just K3,000. In 2022, disaster struck when his house was destroyed by fire. But he refused to give up—he rebuilt his business from a simple stand.

In 2023, a friend introduced him to Umino Community Loans Services. With his first loan of K5,000, Stephen grew his capital to K7,000. More loans followed K10,000, then K15,000 and today he proudly operates with a capital of K20,000.

Thanks to Umino’s fair and supportive services, Stephen has:
✅ Built his own shop
✅ Purchased land
✅ Sponsored his younger brother’s nursing studies

Stephen says Umino loans have truly transformed his life, and he encourages fellow entrepreneurs to seek financial help and advice from Umino to grow their businesses.

👏 We celebrate Stephen’s resilience and success, and we’re proud to be part of his journey!

"UMINO continues ENYANCING entrepreneurs in Eastern Province — Paul Banda’s story is living proof."

🌟 From Compound to Main Market:
Paul Banda’s Entrepreneurial Journey 🌟

The story of Paul Banda is a true testament to determination and the power of financial support in transforming lives in Sinda District, Zambia.

Starting with just K15,000 in Milanzi compound, Paul dreamed of growing his business and moving to the bustling Sinda Main Market/Town—the commercial heartbeat of the area.

💡 His breakthrough came through a partnership with UMINO Community Loan Services, who believed in his vision and supported him with three strategic loans:

Loan 1: K10,000 – Stabilized his operations and built his credit history.

Loan 2: K15,000 – Expanded stock and widened his customer base.

Loan 3: K20,000 – Enabled his move to a prime location in Sinda Main Market.

🚀 Today, Paul’s business capital has grown to an impressive K45,000, nearly tripling from where he started. His thriving enterprise is proof that with ambition, vision, and the right support, dreams can become reality.

✨ Paul’s advice to fellow entrepreneurs:
"Don’t be hesitant about applying for a loan or seeking financial help. With the right support and a clear vision, moving from a compound location to the main market is possible."

This success story shows how UMINO truly lives up to its name— ‘UMoyo wabwINO’ (a good life, a better life) empowering local entrepreneurs to achieve their dreams and uplift their communities.

👏 Let’s celebrate Paul Banda’s journey and the impact of community-driven financial empowerment!

Lets hear from our Clients in Sinda

✨ 🌽 “Building Dreams with Maize Bran and Umino Loans”

My name is Stellia Miti and I run a maize bran (Gaga) business in Sinda District. I started this business after seeing how hard it was for farmers with livestock to access maize bran. I began ordering and supplying it, but at first, I struggled with transportation because I didn’t have enough funds.

In 2021, my neighbor told me about Umino, and I immediately applied for a loan. Within 2 working days, I received K6,500. That loan changed everything. Today, I’ve been upgraded to K20,000 because their interest rates are low and affordable for entrepreneurs like me.

Since then, my business has grown every single day. I’ve managed to build 2 houses 🏠🏠, buy 3 motorbikes 🚴🏾‍♂️ that are on the road creating jobs, and now my services reach even outside eastern province. I feel proud knowing my maize bran business has brought financial stability to me and opportunities to others in my community.

My next plan is to open my own hammer mill business 🍲 so I can expand even further. With Umino by my side, I know I’ll go a long way.

💡 To other entrepreneurs: believe in your idea, seek support when you have clear plans, and take calculated steps forward. Umino helped me turn challenges into growth and they can help you too!
