The Technology Development and Advisory Unit provides a range of services, the purpose of which is to promote income generation, employment, and poverty alleviation within Zambia. It is involved in the development of local resource and industries. The range of services can broadly be grouped into three inter related categories:

• Prototype development and small batch production of selected produc

ts
• Business advisory and consultancy services
• General engineering workshops products and services. The main aim of TDAU is that of promotion of industrial and technological growth of Zambia with a focus on creation of employment and promotion of income generation activities. The emphasis is on the private sector and in particular the small and medium scale enterprises. SMEs have the highest potential for employment creation and wealth generation. TDAU’s comparative advantage is that in Zambia there are no other indigenous organizations offering similar services to those of TDAU in the field of capital goods development. The mission of TDAU is to:

“Contribute to employment and wealth creation (national development) through the development, application and, promotion of sustainable technologies”. In pursuance of this mission, the TDAU has the following objectives:

• Provision of products/services design services to industry and other interested organisations and individuals
• Development and improvement of foreign technologies to suit local manufacture and use
• Assisting industry in implementing product and manufacturing process quality control schemes
• Provision of industrial extension services and in-service training such as Compter Aided Design (CAD), workshop skills training, etc
• Dissemination of technological and industrial information
• Engaging in regular production of certain products as an income generating venture

Today, Zambian Breweries is in attendance of the official launch of the first locally produced medical ventilator made by The University of Zambia -UNZA . The brewer, in collaboration with Lafarge Zambia PLC , funded the development of the prototype at a tune of K100,000.

This milestone in innovation will help to improve the country's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and other respiratory illnesses.

TDAU Manager at the launch of the locally designed ventilator, a project supported by Lafarge, Zambia Breweries and the National Technology Business Centre. The ventilator was designed and manufactured by TDAU and the School of Engineering.

The University of Zambia, School of Engineering in April 2020 had requested industry through the Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) for support into a research project to develop a Ventilator. This was in a local effort to contribute to the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.

We are pleased to inform you that Lafarge Zambia Plc and Zambian Breweries Plc pledged to sponsor this initiative with a combined support of K100,000.00.

In this regard, the higher learning institution will tomorrow Tuesday 23rd March 2021 be lauching the locally made medical ventilator at the University.
