The Green Jobs Programme of the Government of Zambia, with financial assistance from the Government of Finland and technical assistance from United Nations (UN) Zambia, is a private sector development programme aimed at promoting sustainable enterprises and creating more and better jobs in the building construction sector while at the same time protecting people and preserving the quality of the e

nvironment. Designed as a UN joint programme, led by the ILO, it benefits from contribution of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), International Trade Centre (ITC) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and therefore makes the best use of the mandates and expertise of the entire UN system to deliver results while facilitating the inclusion of all relevant stakeholders on inclusive green growth and job creation.

Public lecture at the Copperbelt University (CBU) School of Built Environment, where final year students from Architecture, Planning, Real Estate and Construction Economics faculties are showcasing their projects in sustainable built environments. The Zambia Green Jobs Programme recently partnered with CBU and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland to include green building in the curricula of the School of Built Environment.

Zambia Green Jobs Programme Training of Sawmillers from different wood processing MSMEs on the Copperbelt. The training is being conducted at Zambia Forestry College in Mwekera, Kitwe. The training was done in four cohorts of 40 students each. The enterpreneurs are being trained in sawmilling, saw doctoring and wood harvesting. Last year 136 sawmillers were trained. The target for this year is 160.

Edward Lutawo 48, a model farmer of Chipata's Msekera area says interractions with the Zambia Green Jobs Programme has increased exposure for his tree growing business.
He makes about K250,000 per year. He has even built a house and bought his wife a car. All his six children are in school.
Lutawo who was only educated up to grade twelve adds that
"In life it doesn't mean that if you haven't gone far with school, then you will not make it, you have to follow your dream and passion. I have seen people who are very educated but not doing very well in life."
He has trained about 100 farmers in tree growing.
Lutawo also plans to launch Chipata Coffee on the Zambian Market.
