Mulimi Call for Student Brand Ambassadors

Mulimi is looking for six passionate students to serve as Brand Ambassadors for the Mulimi Africa Agribusiness Summit.

If you are studying agriculture, agribusiness, ICT, finance, water engineering, or animal science, and are confident using social media, we would like to hear from you.

Selected ambassadors will help build excitement around the summit while representing the next generation shaping agriculture.

Ambassadors will receive a K2,500 support package, free access to the summit, an official ambassador certificate, and the opportunity to network with agribusiness leaders.

In the spirit of the United Nations International Year of the Woman Farmer 2026 ( ), Mulimi proudly highlights the inspiring journey of Thebbeth Chitalu, a resilient Deaf woman farmer whose determination powerfully demonstrates that disability is not inability.

For Thebbeth, being a Deaf woman farmer is empowering and transformative. It grants her independence, enables her to provide nutritious food for her family, and allows her to earn dignified income through agribusiness.

Her exceptional visual skills, sharp focus, and strong determination help her closely observe crops and adapt to field changes building deep confidence and proving that Deaf women can excel in agriculture and agribusiness on equal footing with anyone else.

When reflecting on women farmers especially Deaf women farmers,Thebbeth envisions extraordinary strength, resilience, and courage. These women labor tirelessly in fields, homes, and communities. Deaf women farmers encounter additional hurdles, such as communication challenges and limited access to sign language-based training, yet they continue as leaders, mothers, entrepreneurs, and change-makers who produce food and sustain their families.

Working in agrifood systems offers Thebbeth profound benefits such as enhanced confidence, leadership growth, and the opportunity to advocate for inclusive agriculture. She recognizes persistent challenges, including communication barriers in trainings and meetings, scarce sign language resources, difficulties securing loans and financial services, gender discrimination, and climate change but remains fully committed and determined to thrive.

Thebbeth emphasizes that women sustain agrifood systems through vital roles as advocates championing the inclusion of Deaf people in agriculture programs, as leaders motivating other Deaf individuals to pursue agribusiness, and as food producers cultivating crops to deliver healthy meals for families and communities while seamlessly balancing leadership, care, domestic work, economic prosperity, and food security.

2026 has been declared the International Year of the Woman Farmer by the United Nations ,a global recognition of women who sustain our food systems across the entire agricultural value chain.

In Zambia, women are at the heart of agriculture not only as producers in the field, but also as processors, aggregators, traders, seed multipliers, input suppliers, and agri-entrepreneurs. From farm to market, women keep food moving, businesses running, and families nourished.

As a farmer myself, I understand firsthand the realities, challenges, and resilience required to work within this system. I am grateful to be part of Mulimi, an organization that intentionally places women at the center of agriculture - recognizing that real impact happens when women are supported at every link of the value chain, not only at production level.

This year is about visibility, dignity, and investment in women whose work feeds the nation, strengthens rural economies, and builds resilience.

As we mark the International Year of the Woman Farmer 2026, we commit to amplifying women’s stories, leadership, and innovation across Zambia—from field to fork.

Mulimi is pleased to share that our Chief Executive Officer, Zindaba Hanzala -Mulimi Farm Life, participated in the launch of Zambia’s inaugural Pest Risk Register, a groundbreaking development for the nation’s agricultural systems. The event marks a turning point in how Zambia anticipates, monitors, and manages invasive pests.

The Pest Risk Register introduces a coordinated and science-driven framework that will enhance the country’s capacity to identify high-risk pests early and guide appropriate responses. This advancement is particularly important for smallholder farmers, who remain the most vulnerable to pest outbreaks and the resulting production losses.

Through Ms. Hanzala’s contribution, Mulimi provided insights drawn from our work with over 15,000 smallholder farmers across multiple regions of Zambia. Her remarks highlighted the realities farmers face on the ground, especially with invasive species such as Fall Armyworm and Tuta absoluta, and underscored the importance of accessible, reliable information for effective preparedness.

Mulimi acknowledges the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Plant Quarantine and Phytosanitary Service (PQPS), the Biosecurity Unit, and CABi , whose collaboration made this national milestone possible. Their efforts have introduced a tool that will support extension officers, farmer organisations, agribusinesses, and community structures in strengthening pest management responses.

As an organisation committed to improving farmer resilience and productivity, Mulimi encourages stakeholders across the agriculture value chain to integrate this register into their work. It presents an opportunity to improve planning, protect crop health, and safeguard national food security.

Mulimi looks forward to continued collaboration with partners and institutions working toward a safer, more prepared agricultural environment for all farmers.
