wCap Limited has completed an investment in Zambian Home Loans, a Zambian housing finance company providing accessible and affordable mortgage and home loan solutions to individuals and families across the country. The investment provides growth capital to support the expansion of Zambian Home Loans' lending operations, with a deliberate focus on financing sustainable and green housing. The transaction reflects wCap's strategy of deploying structured medium-term private credit solutions into capital-efficient businesses operating in underserved, high-impact sectors across Southern Africa.

Zambian Home Loans operates in a sector central to economic empowerment, wealth creation, and environmentalsustainability. Access to reliable home financing remains a limited in the Zambian market, with the majority of the population unable to access conventional mortgage products. This investment will strengthen Company’s ability to grow its loan book, with a focus on properties built to sustainable construction standards, including energy-efficient designs, environmentally responsible materials, and low-carbon building practices. The company's products are designed to meet the needs of employed individuals and small business owners seeking a structured and transparent pathway to home ownership, delivering not only affordability, but long-term sustainability.

Super Return Africa 2024: Key Insights from Investor Week in Capetown, South Africa

Last week, our Partners, Nyeji Chilembo-Mhango and Yvonne Chalwe Mpala attended Super Return Africa 2024 and the 2X GP Sprint in Cape Town, South Africa. The events provided a unique opportunity to gain valuable insights into the evolving private markets as we approach 2025. It was a privilege to contribute to discussions on profitable portfolios and how to build real value through investments and exits within the African landscape.

Here are some key takeaways from the conference and strategic meetings:

1. Increasing market opportunities and the need for Fund Managers: As market opportunities continue to expand, so does the demand for fund managers and alternative asset classes in the investment ecosystem. Africa remains underfunded, with the "Africa the Big Deal" records highlighting the immense potential yet to be tapped. Fund managers are critical in unlocking additional capital and providing essential support to business founders across the continent.

2. Collaboration for sustainable growth while Africa’s investment landscape is highly competitive: Collaboration is essential for long-term growth. We must leverage international partnerships aiming to scale operations on the continent, while also capitalizing on local partnerships that have a direct, positive impact on developing economies. Co-investment opportunities may lead to higher revenues or smoother exits, making collaboration a strategic priority.

3. Building relationships with founders establishing strong, supportive relationships with business founders is invaluable. Though many founders are experts in their fields, they often require guidance to scale successfully. Streamlining processes and raising capital are complex tasks, but they are critical to fostering sustainable growth.

In conclusion, one question remains: Are we not the investors Africa is waiting for? Yesterday, our Principal Martina Jane Phiri had the opportunity to speak at the Innovation and Technology Summit, ITS-ZED where she delved into the dynamics of scaling Zambian tech startups regionally and globally.

🔍 Key Highlights from the Panel:

1️. Key Indicators for Scaling Tech Startups: Market scalability, product-market fit, financial health, and the strength of the founding team are essential for attracting investors. These factors are crucial when evaluating the potential of Zambian startups to expand regionally and globally.

2️. Aligning Business Models for International VC Funding: Local founders must emphasize sustainable revenue models, strong traction, and a clear path to scale. While Zambia’s ecosystem is rich with potential, gaps in mentorship, access to growth capital, and global exposure are challenges that need addressing.

It was a great session full of actionable insights and forward-thinking strategies. We are excited to see more startups break through and make an impact, not just locally but globally.
