An industrial designer who fell in love with clay, what could go wrong!

Clay affords us the luxury of a lifetime of learning. These bowls were a 4 month learning curve, a steep one at that. From casts that stuck to the moulds, slip with problematic specific gravity, fluxing glazes, sagging casts and too many damaged kiln shelves. We learnt a lot, and the result is the beginning to greater understanding of a whole other side of ceramics.
On a lighter note, don’t these look like stones that have tumbled out of the sea?

The KH studio sale is back!!!

Thanks to an amazing first sale earlier this year, we’ve decided to put absolutely everything we’ve got into an end of year sale event and so…
- 3 days to shop the sale! Fri from 13-16pm, Sat 9am-14pm, Sunday from 9am-12pm. A good excuse to leave work early on Black Friday weekend 👀👀👀

It’s sunny somewhere 🌞Happy Friday from a very dreary JHB. These snack bowls were made especially for Sabrina Nicolaci Veiga who spent a few months at KH last year. A sunny experiment in wax resist with the most wonderful shade of yellow.

We are so pleased to announce that Kilnhouse has been shortlisted for Maker of the Year at the 2026 Scape awards! This category boasts the most incredible group of talent and we couldn’t be more excited to be recognised with them.
Much partying ensued in CPT last month and it was wonderful to connect with all the shortlisted.

Kilnhouse is honoured to share that Puddle has been selected as a winner in the inaugural Africa International Design Awards.

With over 300 entries across 40 countries, we are so chuffed that Puddle was recognised in the product design category. It is such a privilege to be awarded amongst so many incredible designers.

Over the past two days I have had the privilege of being offered a seat at a table surrounded by incredible creatives and experts thanks to

There were so many ‘pinch me’ moments. Conversations were clear, sometimes sobering and spectacularly inspiring. Discussions offered incredible insight into business and a realisation that we’re all going through much of the same struggles.

We came out of these two phenomenal days with so much insight and I feel excited about getting into the nitty gritty that will define the future of KH.

It is a unique privilege to work with a brand that respects, supports and values hand made craft. With each lodge at calling KH’s tableware their own, we continue to be astounded by the places our wares call home. This earthy range calls Serengeti House in Tanzania home.

It’s finally happening, our first workshop!

Hearts & Crafts is a series of community events and workshops which KH will be hosting every second month. Volume 1 is an event for the ladies centered around the idea of Girl Dinner. Treat yourself or your loved one this valentines with the gift of craft, community and great conversation.
