Did you know that around 65% of vehicles on South African roads are uninsured? That means if you're in traffic with five cars around you, there's a good chance three of them have no cover at all.

It's a sobering stat, but it's also exactly why your own cover matters more, not less. If you're hit by an uninsured driver, your policy is often the only thing standing between you and the full repair bill.

Not sure your cover is doing enough for you? Let's check.

Ever read your policy and wondered what the difference is between a "peril" and a "hazard"? You're not alone, the two get used interchangeably all the time, but in insurance terms, they're not the same thing at all.

A peril is the actual event that causes the loss. Think fire, flood, windstorm, lightning, or explosion.

A hazard is a condition that makes that loss more likely, or worse when it happens. Exposed wiring, a cracked structure, a gas leak, poor maintenance.

In short: hazards increase your risk. Perils are what trigger the claim. Knowing the difference helps you understand exactly what your policy covers, and where you can reduce risk before something goes wrong.

Got a hazard on your property you're not sure is covered? Speak to your broker before it becomes a peril.

Did you know bundling your policies could be quietly costing you less?

Combining your home, car, and other short-term cover under one policy with us often unlocks better rates than running separate policies with separate providers - plus one renewal date, one point of contact, and one broker who sees your whole picture.

It's one of those simple wins that's easy to miss if no one's ever pointed it out.

If your cover is scattered across a few different providers, let's see what bringing it together could save you.

Back-to-school costs climbing again this year? Here's a thought for the long game.

Education costs in South Africa tend to rise faster than general inflation year on year. A dedicated savings plan started early (even a modest monthly amount) can take real pressure off future fees, without derailing your day-to-day budget.

The earlier it starts, the less it costs you overall thanks to compound growth.

Let's talk about what a plan for your child's future could look like.

Renewed your medical aid this year? You're not imagining the sting.

2026 contribution increases across SA's major open schemes have ranged from around 6.8% up to nearly 10%, driven by rising hospital tariffs, specialist fees and an ageing risk pool.

The tricky part: a bigger premium doesn't always mean better cover. Some options have quietly tightened pre-authorisation rules or increased co-payments on in-hospital procedures.

Before you assume your scheme still fits your life, it's worth a proper comparison, not just a premium check.

We'll help you weigh up your cover, not just cost.

An estimated 85% of South Africans die without a valid will.

The result? Over R20 billion currently sits in the Guardian's Fund, tied up on behalf of minor beneficiaries and heirs who were never traced.

A will costs far less than the chaos of not having one - yet it's the financial planning step most people put off indefinitely.

If it's been a while (or never), let's get it sorted. Your family will thank you for it.

Did you know? Since the two-pot system's third withdrawal cycle opened in March, South Africans have pulled over R60 billion from their savings pots, with debt, school fees and living costs the top reasons cited.

The average claim has actually dropped to around R9,290, and 71% of claims are under R10,000 - meaning most people are using it for genuine short-term relief, not a windfall.

Here's the catch: every withdrawal today is compound growth you won't get back at retirement. Before you dip in, it's worth understanding exactly what it'll cost you long-term.

Chat to your Lighthouse Group broker about whether there's a better option for your situation.

Good news: Load shedding has been off the table for over a year. But that doesn't mean your appliances are in the clear ⚡

Lightning strikes, grid faults, and power restoration spikes can all cause surge damage strong enough to take out TVs, fridges, and home electronics in seconds. Many policies cover surge damage, but limits and conditions vary widely.
