Filing with SARS doesn't have to be a last-minute scramble. Here are a few tips to get ahead of the curve:

✔️ Start gathering your documents now: Payslips, bank statements, medical aid certificates, and retirement annuity contributions.
✔️ If you work from home, check whether any portion of your expenses may be deductible.

If my car is hijacked, is it covered the same way as theft? 🚘

Not exactly, and it's an important distinction to understand.

Hijacking and theft are both covered under a comprehensive motor policy, but they're treated as separate events. Hijacking involves the use of force or threat to take your vehicle while you're present. Theft typically refers to your vehicle being taken without your knowledge - from a parking lot, for example.

Both are covered under most comprehensive policies, but the claims process and what's required to support your claim can differ. In a hijacking, for instance, it's critical to report the incident to the police immediately and inform your broker as soon as it's safe to do so.

The details matter. That's why having a personal broker in your corner, someone who knows your policy and can guide you through the process when things go wrong, makes all the difference.
