BUILDING OR CONTENTS?
The structure and the movable items inside it are normally insured under different sections.
Building insurance generally protects the structure and permanent fixtures; household contents insurance protects movable belongings inside the home. The responsibilities of an owner, body corporate, landlord and tenant may differ.
Do not assume one section automatically covers the other. Confirm who must insure what, and make sure both the structure and its contents are valued correctly.
Cover is subject to the insurer’s policy wording, limits, conditions, exclusions and underwriting requirements.
