Breast health starts with knowing your own body. Taking a few minutes each month to perform a breast self-examination helps you become familiar with what feels normal, making it easier to notice changes that should be discussed with your doctor.

Look out for signs like a new lump, changes in the size or shape of the breast, skin dimpling, ni**le discharge, persistent pain, or changes around the ni**le. While these changes are often caused by conditions other than cancer, they should always be assessed by a healthcare professional.

Routine mammograms remain one of the most effective ways to detect breast cancer early, often before symptoms develop. Profmed’s Preventative Care Benefit includes annual mammograms for women aged 40 to 55, with biennial screening funded from age 56 onwards. Women under 40 may also qualify for a mammogram where there is a clinical reason, like a strong family history, subject to pre-authorisation.

Early detection gives you more treatment options and improves outcomes. Prevention starts with knowing what to look for and making time for the screenings that help protect your health.

Why tax is becoming one of the most important investment decisions - Moneyweb

Tax isn't a side issue, it shapes long-term returns, which is why investors are looking beyond pre-tax performance to what remains after tax and costs.

We’re halfway through the year, and it’s usually around now that people take stock of how things are going. Deadlines, plans, budgets… and often, health gets pushed a little further down the list.

At Profmed, this is exactly the kind of moment preventative care is designed for. Members can use their annual screening benefits to check in on key health markers, including blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose levels, and other age-appropriate tests. These screenings form part of Amplifire, where completing them unlocks additional benefits that can be used within the same year.

It’s a practical way to stay on top of your health while building a bit of extra cover for the months ahead.

Book your annual screening with your GP or pharmacy, complete the required checks, and unlock your Amplifire benefits for the rest of the year if you haven’t already done so.

A mid-year check-in keeps things on track, long before anything feels urgent.

In 2025, PPS returned R13.55 billion in value to members.

This included R6.88 billion in Profit‑Share allocations.

What does mutuality mean to you and your family?

*The PPS Profit-Share Account™ reflects the accumulated value of annual profit allocations made to members who hold qualifying products. These amounts are invested on the member’s behalf and vest at retirement, death or in
other limited circumstances permitted under the qualifying insurance policy terms and conditions. Allocations may be positive or negative depending on operating experience and investment performance, and past allocations are not necessarily indicative of future outcome.

Youth Day always makes us think about how early the journey really begins.

Long before the job title, the stable income, or the sense of having “arrived”, there are years of study, long hours, tough decisions, and quiet determination. It’s where ambition takes shape, often behind the scenes.

At Profmed, that journey is something we understand deeply. Professionals don’t suddenly appear fully formed. They build their future step by step, often while they are still studying and finding their footing.

That’s why we’ve structured our benefits to meet young professionals where they are. Eligible students can join while they are still completing their qualifications, with options designed for early-stage careers that prioritise essential cover without unnecessary cost.

It means access to private healthcare for major medical events, the ability to build additional savings over time for out-of-hospital expenses, and the flexibility to adapt cover as their circumstances evolve from student to working professional.

Because Empowering Bold Futures starts long before the finish line.

This Youth Day, we celebrate the energy, resilience, and possibility of South Africa’s youth, already shaping what comes next.

Winter changes the rhythm a little. The days are shorter, energy dips earlier, and the pace of work doesn’t slow down to match it. It’s often when focus takes more effort, and small stresses start to build.

At Profmed, mental wellbeing is treated as part of overall health, with benefits that support members when they need it.

This includes access to mental health consultations, support through your healthcare provider, and the ability to use tools like the PPS Wallet for out-of-hospital expenses such as counselling or therapy sessions, depending on your needs.

Combined with preventative screenings through Amplifire, it gives members a structured way to stay aware of both physical and mental health as the year progresses.

If you’ve been feeling the shift this winter, book a check-in with your GP or mental health professional, and review how your current benefits can support ongoing care. A small step now can reset your pace for the rest of the season.
