The Minister for Small Business Development, Stella Ndabeni, returned to Eshowe, Umlalazi Local Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal, earlier today to fulfil commitments made during her previous engagement with local spaza shop owners.

Ahead of the programme, the Minister visited spaza shop beneficiaries at their respective businesses, engaging with entrepreneurs and observing their business operations.

Following concerns raised during her previous visit about business registration, regulatory compliance and access to government support, the Department of Small Business Development, SEDFA and the municipality worked together to assist entrepreneurs with compliance requirements and applications to the Spaza Shop Support Fund.

The Minister led the handover of trading stock to qualifying beneficiaries, marking progress in delivering on these commitments. In King Cetshwayo District, 117 spaza shops had been approved for support.

The initiative aimed to strengthen business operations, improve sustainability and support South African-owned spaza shops in township and rural communities.
