Chery International (Pty) Ltd will be implementing a new Parts system, which will require a temporary closure of the Parts Department from 28 January to 9 February 2026.

This will affect you if your Chery is in for repairs, and you should be aware of this if you are involved in an accident, as it can delay the repair process.

During this period no new parts orders will be accepted, dispatched or processed. Chery’s Parts operations resume on 10 February 2026.

Older drivers getting targeted - Please be aware or a link being passed around asking you to upload a medical certificate to a website as requested by Department of transport. this is a scam.

Here’s the reality on South African driver’s licence renewals in 2025:

📍 What we know and the law says...

In South Africa, driver’s licences must be renewed every 5 years, and the standard process applies to everyone regardless of age. Renewals include an eye test and fingerprinting, but there is no special separate online upload medical letter requirement sent by email specifically for “seniors” over 72 as a standalone new rule.
Government of South Africa

The official Department of Transport / RTMC information does not show any government-issued policy that forces people over a certain age to upload a doctor’s letter by email to some third-party link before a deadline in a “mandatory senior driving licence renewal” campaign.
Africa Check

Some unofficial sites and social posts are spreading a narrative that “drivers over 70 must complete vision tests and medical declarations before renewing” before an arbitrary deadline, but:

These pages are not official government or RTMC sites and seem to be copying or inventing requirements with no legal backing.

The official government portal does not list age-based medical upload deadlines like that.
Government of South Africa

Look out for these signs:

If the email came from a non-government email address (anything not ending in a verified gov.za domain),

Includes links that don’t go to an official NatIS/Department of Transport website, or

Pressures the recipient with threats (suspension, fines, forced medical checks),

…then treat it as phishing / scam.

✅ How to check before acting

Do not click the link in the email.

Visit the official licence renewal portal directly via:
https://www.gov.za/services/driving-licence/renew-driving-licence

Government of South Africa

Contact your local Driving Licence Testing Centre (DLTC) or NatIS office and ask if that email came from them.

If it was a phishing email, report it to the DLTC/RTMC and delete it.

🌧️ Preparing for the Rainy Season – Tips to Stay Safe & Protected 🌩️

The rainy season is on the way, and while we can’t control the weather, we can take steps to reduce the risk of damage to our homes, vehicles, and valuables. Many losses during this time come from poor maintenance, not just insured events.

Here’s how you can stay a step ahead:

🏠 Buildings & Property

Clear gutters, downpipes, and drains to avoid blockages and flooding.

Check roofs, tiles, flashings, and waterproofing for cracks or leaks.

Make sure stormwater channels and weep holes aren’t blocked.

Trim back overhanging branches that could fall during high winds.

Protect electronics with surge protectors – lightning and load fluctuations often fry TVs, routers, and appliances.

🚗 Vehicles

Check tyres, wipers, and lights – worn tread increases aquaplaning risk.

Avoid driving through flooded roads – water damage to engines is very costly.

Park in elevated, safe areas if possible.

Never use cruise control in heavy rain – sudden puddles can cause loss of traction.

🧹 General Housekeeping

Keep valuables and electrical equipment off the floor in case of flooding.

Back up important documents and data.

Review your insurance to ensure your cover is still adequate.

👉 Remember: Maintenance is your responsibility. Insurers may not cover losses caused by neglect or wear and tear.

Take action now, and you’ll thank yourself later when the storms hit!

Money Smart Week 2025 – Pillar 4: Home & Possessions

Insurance is more than protection—it’s peace of mind. Yet in South Africa, the numbers highlight a serious vulnerability:
• As many as 70% of motorists are uninsured—despite living in a country where vehicle accidents and theft remain high. (News24)
• Roughly only 10% of South Africans have life or physical asset insurance, while just 30% of motorists carry car cover. (Ignition Group)
• Even during economic pressures, short-term insurance remains resilient. In 2022, gross written premiums rose to R140 billion, a 9.7% increase over the previous year. (Eighty20 via FANews)
This matters for professionals like you:

1. Your assets—home, car, gadgets—are foundational to your lifestyle. Be proactive in protecting them.

2. Everyday disruptions like theft, accidents, or natural damage can cost tens of thousands of rands—or more—in repairs or replacements.

3. Short-term insurance isn’t an expense—it’s a financial guardrail that ensures recovery, not derailment.

Your Money Smart Week move:
Review or update your home and possessions cover. It’s about securing what you’ve worked hard to build.

Money Smart Week 2025 – Pillar 1: Medical Aid

In South Africa, only 14.7% of the population is covered by medical aid schemes (Moneyweb). That means the majority of working adults face the risk of funding healthcare expenses directly from their savings or income.

The cost reality is significant: a single hospital admission, particularly with intensive care, can easily exceed R200,000 (Genesis Medical). Without proper cover, an unexpected medical emergency can derail both short-term financial goals and long-term financial planning.

This is why Medical Aid forms the first pillar of financial freedom. By securing appropriate cover, you protect your health and safeguard your financial resilience.
Your step this Money Smart Week: review your medical aid options and ensure your plan is aligned with both your needs and your budget.
