*🚨 Beware of This Vehicle Recovery Scam! 🚨*
The below scam is making the rounds, and it's targeting people who’ve recently had their vehicles stolen. Here's how it works:
1. You receive a call from someone claiming to be a detective from the "Vehicle Recovery Unit" or a similar-sounding department.
2. The scammer tells you your stolen vehicle has been found near the border. This adds urgency to the situation, making it sound believable.
3. They inform you that you need to pay a fee to have the vehicle recovered and brought back to you.
4. You’re asked to send the payment through an untraceable method like an e-wallet, bank transfer, or cash deposit.
It’s all a lie—the scammers use the emotional stress of losing your vehicle to trick you into paying them money.
*How to Protect Yourself:*
1. *Verify the Caller:* Ask for the caller's name, badge number, and the station they’re calling from. Hang up and call the station directly to confirm their identity.
2. *Never Pay Upfront:* Legitimate authorities do not charge fees for recovering stolen vehicles.
3. *Be Cautious of Payment Methods:* Scammers often insist on untraceable payment methods. Avoid making payments to individuals or third-party accounts.
4. *Report the Incident:* If you suspect a scam, contact your local police station immediately.
This scam preys on people’s vulnerability during an already stressful time. Stay alert, and spread the word to protect others!
Stay safe.
