In line with our mission to drive investment and economic growth in Cape Town and the Western Cape, Wesgro recently took part in the Regional Investment Conference 2024, held from November 14 to 16 at the Knysna Premier Hotel, hosted by the Knysna Municipality, the Greater Knysna Business Chamber, and the Yona-Yethu Initiative.
The event brought together investors, policymakers, and business leaders to explore the region’s vast economic potential and discuss critical economic and social challenges such as energy security, infrastructure development, housing, climate adaptation. The speeches, presentations and discussions, focused on how best to address these issues by identifying innovative and sustainable solutions that would help drive investment into the region and in turn generate economic growth.
Addressing these points were:
▪️ Keynote address by Deputy President Paul Mashatile, highlighting Operation Vulindlela, an economic reform programme designed to drive growth and create job opportunities.
▪️ Presentation from Wesgro’s Acting Head of Investment Promotion, Mzwandile Zwai Nomandla, highlighting Garden Route District Municipality’s economic trends, trade and investment performance, demographic insights, and in turn showcasing Knysna and Garden Route's investment potential.
▪️ Deputy Minister of Finance Ashor Sarupen MP spoke on National Treasury's role in fostering economic growth, through both government-funded projects and initiatives where private sector funding is crowded in.
▪️ Insightful presentations from the Garden Route District Municipality emphasised the need for infrastructure investment to accommodate population growth and support sustainable economic development.
Wesgro continues to support investment, trade and tourism growth opportunities in all regions of the Western Cape, across the City of Cape Town and all 5 regions in the province, represented by the district municipalities – Garden Route District Municipality, West Coast District Municipality, Overberg District Municipality, Cape Winelands DM and Central Karoo District Municipality .
