The advent of true democracy in 1994 for South Africa brought with it the enormous challenges of charting a new growth path for South Africa. The debt collection industry was also transformed with the promulgation of the Debt Collectors Act 114 of 1998, and the establishment of the regulatory authority, The Council for Debt Collectors, to regulate debt collectors. The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development appointed Riana Ferreira, the proud owner of Collect A Debt, to serve as the first woman representing debt collectors on the Council for Debt Collectors in 2001. This is a most prestigious appointment for any debt collector within the South African industry. Riana was re-appointed to the board for 2003, 2006 and 2009. She is still currently serving as a member on the Council for Debt Collectors
