Property and Deceased Estates – What did our Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana have to say?

The much anticipated β€˜revisited’ National Budget Speech was delivered yesterday and there are some adjustments to be aware of regarding property and deceased estates.

Looking at buying your first property? If the property is valued at under R1,21 million, you will be exempt from paying transfer duty. Previously R1,1 Million.

Value Added Tax (VAT) is set to increase on the 1st May 2025 from 15% to 15.5%. Followed by an additional 0.5% on the 1st April 2026.

Capital Gains Tax – Remains the same

And last but not least, Cheers, to all our clients who have supported us over the last financial year, a bottle of sparkling wine increased by ONLY 89c.

BREAKING NEWS: Budget speech postponed, β€˜parties’ at loggerheads over 2% VAT increase.

According to an article posted on IOL less than an hour ago, β€˜The anticipated 2025 budget speech has been postponed to March. Speaker Thoko Didiza has announced that β€œparties” failed to reach an agreement over the proposed 2% VAT increase.’ Full article below.
