It’s actually really special that Eid-ul-Fitr and Human Rights Day fall on the same day this year.

Eid is all about gratitude, kindness, and looking out for others, especially after a month of reflection during Ramadan. And Human Rights Day is about dignity, equality, and making sure everyone is treated fairly.

When you think about it, they’re both about the same core idea — caring for people and respecting one another.

It is also a moment to reflect: not only to celebrate, but to be better neighbours, better citizens, and better human beings. To ensure that the spirit of Eid — giving, caring, and unity — extends beyond today, and lives within our actions every day.

This coincidence is not just special — it is meaningful. It reminds us that regardless of our backgrounds, beliefs, or traditions, we are united by something greater: our shared humanity.

The shift to electric and hybrid vehicles is gaining momentum in South Africa, but it remains a measured transition rather than an overnight change.

Recent data from the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (Naamsa) shows that in 2025, consumer preference leaned strongly toward traditional hybrid vehicles, with 12,818 units sold. Interest in plug‑in hybrids increased notably year on year, while fully electric vehicle sales declined slightly, by around 13%.

This reflects a cautious approach to electrification, as buyers balance cost, infrastructure and everyday practicality.

If you are considering a hybrid vehicle this year, a few insurance considerations are worth keeping in mind:
• Insurance costs and repairs
Electric and hybrid vehicles often require specialised repairs, which can influence premiums. While these costs may reduce over time as adoption increases, they remain an important factor today.
• Tailored cover
Ensure your policy specifically protects EV‑related components such as batteries and charging equipment, which may not be adequately covered under standard motor policies.
• Your individual risk profile
Premiums are influenced by more than the vehicle itself. Factors such as driving history, location, make and model, and even vehicle colour can all play a role.

LEAVING YOUR VEHICLE WITH A CAR WASH/ VALET / A PROFESSIONAL SERVICE PROVIDER.... BE VERY AWARE!!

It could be a very expensive mistake that insurance won't cover — and you would not see it coming.

You may or may not have heard about a South African that left their luxury R1.3 Million vehicle at a car wash.
He handed over the keys, as one would. Someone arrived to collect the car, impersonating the customer, and left with the vehicle.

The theft was reported and the insurance claim registered for the stolen vehicle.

The insurer REJECTED the claim.

The reason was because the vehicle owner "voluntarily parted with possession of his vehicle".

This is not an uncommon occurrence.
Vehicles are stolen at car washes regularly including tyre fitment centres, valet services and other places where you would hand over your keys.

It is VITAL to be hypervigilant and also to check with your broker and read your policy wording when it comes to exclusions.

In the policy wording they may refer to “losses arising from voluntary parting with possession, trickery, or misrepresentation”.

✔️ You could be left with no payout and no recourse.

Insurance isn’t what it used to be and you need to be aware of the wording and technicality to not be caught off guard. Policy exclusions today, with criminals getting more 'creative', are far more tightly enforced.
