Fuel price increases have led many households to consider storing fuel at home ⛽️🔥

However, this comes with serious safety, legal, and insurance risks. Petrol is a highly flammable substance, and improper storage can significantly increase the risk of fire and potential claim rejection.

Most municipalities also limit the amount of fuel that may be stored at residential properties.

If you are unsure about your cover or compliance, please contact us for guidance ☎️

If fuel must be stored, ensure the following:
• Do not exceed municipal limits (typically 20–25 litres)
• Use only approved, certified containers
• Store in a secure, well-ventilated area
• Never store petrol inside the home
• Keep away from heat, sparks, and open flames
• Clearly label containers as flammable
• Keep out of reach of children

Topic: Things people misunderstand about car insurance excess.

Let’s clear this up, because excess confusion costs people real money.

1️⃣ “The excess only applies if I cause the accident.”
Wrong. Excess usually applies whenever you claim, regardless of fault. Even if someone rear-ends you, your insurer may still require excess upfront and recover it later—if recovery is successful. Don’t assume “not my fault” = “no excess.”

2️⃣ “My excess is just one fixed amount.”
Rarely true. Most policies stack excesses. That means you could pay:

- A basic excess
- PLUS an age excess
- PLUS an inexperienced driver excess
- PLUS a special excess (hail, theft, write-off, etc.)

That “R3,500 excess” can quickly turn into R10,000+. Read the schedule, not just the headline number.

3️⃣ “If I can’t afford the excess, the insurer will waive it.”
Hard truth: insurers don’t waive excess because it’s inconvenient. If you can’t pay it, the claim may not proceed. If your excess is unaffordable, your cover is effectively weaker than you think.

Bottom line:
Excess isn’t a technical detail - it’s a financial commitment. If you don’t fully understand yours, you’re exposed at the worst possible moment.

Replacement Value vs. Market Value Insurance – Do You Know the Difference? 🏠💡

When it comes to insuring your property, understanding these two terms can save you from unexpected costs:

🔹 Replacement Value:
This covers the cost to repair or replace your property with a new one of similar kind and quality – without factoring in depreciation. Perfect if you want to restore your home or belongings to their original state.

🔹 Market Value:
This pays out the current value of your property, taking depreciation into account. That means older items or homes may get a lower payout than the cost to replace them.

Topic - Claim form

Completing your claim forms properly isn’t admin for admin’s sake — it actually protects you.

✔️ Faster claim processing
✔️ Clear record-keeping (no missing info)
✔️ Fewer delays, fewer follow-ups
✔️ A smoother experience from start to finish

When the paperwork is done right, insurers can act faster and your claim stands on solid ground.

Liability Insurance & Reporting– This Matters More Than You Think

Many clients believe that having liability insurance means they’re automatically covered the moment something goes wrong.
That’s not entirely true.

👉 Reporting is critical.

If an incident happens — whether it’s damage, injury, or even a possible claim — it must be reported to the insurer immediately, even if:

- You’re not sure who’s at fault
- No claim has been submitted yet
- You think it will “blow over”

Why?
Because liability policies are claims-made or occurrence-based with strict reporting requirements. Late or non-reporting can lead to:
❌ Reduced payouts
❌ Delayed claims
❌ Claims being rejected entirely

In short:
No proper reporting = no protection, regardless of how long you’ve been paying premiums.

📌 Advice:
If something feels even remotely claim-related, report it. Let the insurer decide — not after the fact.

Insurance doesn’t just protect you when things go wrong.
It protects you when you follow the process.

If you’re unsure about your liability cover or notification duties, ask. It’s always cheaper than learning the hard way.

Why Cheap Insurance Can Cost You More:

It’s tempting to go for the cheapest insurance option—but when it comes to protection, “cheap” can get very expensive.

Here’s why:

1. Hidden Gaps in Cover – Low premiums often mean limited protection. When disaster strikes, your policy may not cover the full loss.

2. Excess and Deductibles – Cheaper policies sometimes have higher excesses, leaving you out of pocket when you need help most.

3. Exclusions & Fine Print – The fine print can exclude important risks, leaving you exposed.

4. Claims Hassles – Budget policies may have slower claims processes or stricter requirements, causing stress and delays.

Choosing the right insurance isn’t about the lowest price—it’s about value and security. Protect what matters without compromise.
