A truck driver sustained injuries after being struck by debris during protest action near the service road in the Prospecton area on Wednesday.

It is believed that a protest was underway in the area and was being monitored by law enforcement officials. According to information received, the truck driver was exiting a container depot when members of the crowd allegedly began throwing bricks at the vehicle. One of the projectiles shattered a window and struck the driver on the head, causing injuries.

Reports further indicate that as the driver attempted to leave the area, several individuals allegedly burst bottles and attempted to assault him. Law enforcement officers intervened, and measures were taken to disperse the crowd. The protesters subsequently fled the area.

Due to concerns for his safety, the injured driver left the scene immediately following the incident and will seek private medical attention. The extent of his injuries has not been confirmed at this stage.

All emergency services and relevant stakeholders were in attendance, while authorities continue to monitor the situation and investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Good morning Facebook friends. I believe that all things happen for a reason. I’m always confused about the reason when I’m in the midst of a crisis, but time reveals all. My SAB/AB InBev Owner Drivers are going through a crisis at the moment. Their contracts are being cancelled and big corporate transporters are replacing them. This is making them feel hopeless😢 After decades of loyal service to SAB/AB InBev, they are being tossed out like yesterday’s trash💔 It’s time to accept that it is what it is and to move on. My plea to you is that if you know of any decent transport contracts or if you want to start an owner driver transport scheme within your business, you please reach out to me, so that we can create something wonderful for these hard working, skilled men that find themselves in a terrible situation🙏 Be blessed and have a wonderful weekend🌸
