*MAHIKENG BUSINESS OWNERS KILLED RESPONDING TO SON'S HOME INVASION*
_26 April 2026_

Mahikeng is mourning the loss of two well-known business owners who were killed on Friday, 24 April, during an armed robbery.

Mr Sergio Gomes, known as “Search”, and his wife, Mrs Marlene Gomes, known as “Ma-Totobola”, owners of Totobola Butchery, were fatally shot after they went to assist their son whose home on the same street was being robbed by armed individuals.

According to family, the couple rushed to help when their son’s house was invaded by a group of armed men. The intruders reacted violently, opening fire on the couple before fleeing.

“Ma-Totobola”, Mrs Marlene Gomes, died at the scene. “Search”, Mr Sergio Gomes, was rushed to hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

SAPS is investigating the case as robbery with aggravating circumstances and murder. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is urged to contact authorities.
