Where it all began for La Lucia
‘These beautiful photographs capture the early days of the development from farmland to the projected La Lucia Township.
Bonnin's Estates is fortunate to hold a copy of the original brochure that describes the new township of La Lucia as "a place where you will want to take your family to live; a place where you will meet old friends and make new ones."
The brochure detailed the many attributes of the new development from the indigenous nature reserve to the intricacies of the Deed of Sale and all the amenities from shops, cinemas and business centres.
It later maps out its convenient location along the North Coast, allowing for those leisure hours to be spent at the beach, surfing, fishing or playing golf at the nearby Mount Edgecombe Golf Course.
The ground at La Lucia drops to the sea in a series of gentle slopes so every plot was in a superb position, and the great majority of them with views.
A very interesting section of the brochure is the Schedule of Costs which tabulates the price of a plot of land (each approximately one-third of an acre), starting at R2000.00 and the most expensive purchase price being, R5000.00.
There are endless years of hard work behind the birth of every suburb, town and city, so it's wonderful to take a minute and learn about its history.’ Thank you Tyron for taking us down memory lane
