Gender-based violence (GBV) remains one of South Africa’s most urgent and devastating challenges — and the statistics are deeply alarming:

- 51% of women in South Africa report having experienced GBV.

- A national study by the HSRC found that 33.1% of women aged 18+ have experienced physical violence — an estimated 7 310 389 women.

- 9.9% have experienced sexual violence, affecting around 2 150 342 women.

These are not just numbers — they represent mothers, daughters, partners, friends, and colleagues whose lives have been irrevocably affected.
